Has anyone ever rented boats from their resort using the Captain's Plan (per Mousesavers: costs $199 and you get unlimited boat rentals, for the length of your stay, for all members of your party (maximum of 4 people). Does this mean you can use 2 watermice at once? Can you get the 15% AP discount? Which resorts are the best for taking advantage of the plan?
Thanks.::MinnieMo

We bought it when we stayed at the Poly this past August. We thought it was a wonderful plan. It cost $199 for the week and I don't think you can use any other discounts. We are DVC members, AP holders, AAA members, and DC members and could not use any of these. At $199 it is a great rate by itself. We had 4 people in our family and could use 4 water mice if we wanted at any one time. My kids love the water mice and they got a lot of use out of them during our stay. We also used a pontoon boat 2X (had a nice relaxing lunch both times!!). I don't think it's called the Captain's plan any longer, at least this is what one CM told us. I don't remember the exact term she gave it, something like a boat rental length of stay plan or something like that. We felt it was well worth the money and would do it again.

I have not used this, but I called about it yesterday.
$199 (+ tax) is for length of stay (I didn't ask for further paramaters) and there's one for $125 (if I recall right) for 4 hours. Good for entire party up to five people. Appears is can be done at any marina but whatever one you sign up at, you must always go back to for each rental. I do not belive that you have to be a guest at that particular resort, but I'm not sure exactly who it's open to.
If you were at WLV where you night be able to frequently "scoot out" now and then, I can see a real appeal for this.
I'm thinking we might go for the four hour deal, since for 3 of us to rent water mice for 1 hour is $81 and it's only a short $44 to being able to do that a few times. Actually, lunch on a pontoon boat sounds kind of appealing, too.

Thanks for the information!! Do you know how old the kids have to be to drive the watermice? Mine are ages 7 & 9...probably too young. Do they limit your use time? Did you have to make reservations prior to arrival? Thanks again. ::MinnieMo

I believe you have to be 12 to use them alone, but your kids could ride with an adult. No they do not limit your time, at least they did not limit our time. And no we did not make reservations ahead of time, just went down to the marina when we arrived at the Poly. It's my understanding that you have to be a guest at the resort you are using the boats from. The only time we made any kind of a reservation was when we wanted to use a pontoon boat, they do not have many of them. Also I would like to add that one day my brother and his family came to visit us (they were staying at Fort Wilderness) and we asked if they could come with us in a pontoon boat. The CMS said yes and we all enjoyed a very nice lunch and ride around Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. The kids have nice memories of our time together.

Hope this helps. Have Fun!!!

Thanks again! I can't wait until June...the kids will absolutely love the boats!::MinnieMo

We have used the plan at GF and the Polynesian and at both my husband was asked for id to show that we were staying at that respective resort. From others posts on the subject, I don't think the other resorts have had that restriction...although things change at the World all the time these days.

As DisneyMim said, no other discounts are applied..it is already a very nice discount.

I think any of the MK resorts would be the best place to rent including FW and WL. At all five, you can boat on Bay Lake as well as Seven Seas Lagoon.

This is the information I received last November from WL

Recreation Family Plans:
Plan includes the Water Mouse, Pontoon Boats, Canopy Boats, Sailboats and Bicycles, (Cruises and Surry Biles NOT included)
Captain Plan: 4 hours of rental per Group $115 plus tax
Family Plan: Length of Stay Plan (Weekly Rate for Use of Equipment Listed Above) $199.00 plus
tax (Up to 5 Guests per Plan)

Water Mice:boat: -- small craft that can speed up to 22 mph, $20.75/half-hour. Minimum age is 12, height requirement is 5 feet. Combined maximum weight limit for all passengers is 320 pounds. All drivers under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or legal guardian sign a release. Drivers 18 years of age must provide ID with birth date.

Boy, you guys are great. I learn something new every day.

I have a couple of questions. 1. Do you drive the pontoon boat yourself? 2. How does the lunch work. Do you bring your own? and 3. We'll be at both the Poly and CR. Do you think there's anyway to tranfer to rental?

:boat: :boat: :cool1: :grouphug:

ColoradoDis,

Yes, ::yes:: you would drive the pontoon boat yourself, I also read that you could order lunch from Room Service, make or bring your own..

Not sure about transfering from one Resort to another though.
I would call and verify that before spending the $$. :boat:

ColoradoDis, just wanted to add that yes we drove the pontoon boat ourself. They go real slow and are very easy to drive. What we did for lunch was we went to Captain Cook's at the Poly and bought some stuff and also at the store upstairs (mickey pretzels, etc.). We didn't want a real big all-out lunch as we planned on going to dinner, but I'm sure you could order from room service and get something special if you want. I'm not sure about the transfer from resort to resort. I would ask.

Have Fun!!!

Do you have to reserve the pontoon boat? Have many people can fit? There are 11 in our group (various ages) so this sounds like a great way to enjoy the lake.

ryansmom,

I don't think you have to reserve them, just get there early. You have to have all rental boats back before dark so this isn't like reserving a cruise for Wishes Fireworks or IllumiNations.

(Should ask if you sign up for either Plan)

We took advantage of this wonderful plan last August while staying at GF. It was the main reason why we went to Disney last summer as my oldest just turned 12. That's all he wanted to do the entire trip, ride water mice. He had a blast, as did the rest of the family. I hope Disney never discontinues this great family plan.

Is there some sort of table that you sat the food on? I haven't been on a pontoon boat in yrs. Is there seats all the way around the boat? We will be there on our Anniversary and I thought it might be nice to take a nice breakfast out on the lake.

I will be staying at Ft. Wilderness for 3 nights. I know that you can pay $199.00 for a week, but does anyone know if there is a family rate if you want one for less than a week?

No, tricia, I think it's for a week at the resort purchased.

According to Deb Will's all ears site.....
Can you tell me about the bike and boat rental plan available at Wilderness Lodge? Are there any other packages like this, such as one that includes golf cart rentals at Fort Wilderness?

The Family Plan Boat and Bike Rental costs $199.00 for a group of five. The Family Plan includes unlimited use of watermice, pontoon boats, and bikes; however surrey bike rental is not included in the plan. You must be a Disney resort guest, but you do not have to be a guest of the resort where you purchase the Family Plan. If you buy the Family Plan at the Wilderness Lodge you will not be able to use it anywhere else, as these programs are not reciprocal with the other resorts' marina and bike rental programs.

Please call Disney's recreation line 1-407-WDW-PLAY to verify that this program is still available at the Wilderness Lodge, as plans and policies are always subject to change without notice. You may also wish to call the Wilderness Lodge at 1-407-824-3200 to speak with the Recreation Director to verify the details of the Lodge's particular plan. Information about other resorts' recreation plans can be obtained by calling 1-407-WDW-PLAY.

I researched this, since we will be staying at three different resorts for 9 nights. Will probably get our money's worth at the CR for the first three days, and then return thru-out the trip to finish up our family plan!
For the 4 of us, it sounds like a real DEAL!
Much better than an AP dsicount, too!::yes::

According to information posted on the DVC board about the Family Boat and Bike Plan it is no longer offered at Wilderness Lodge.

Boat and bike plan. There have been a number of people who have called recently and have been told that it has now been cancelled. Someone on the DVC board was just down there and was told NO since it has been discountinued. It is not just at WL, it is at all resorts. there is a campaign to try and get them to reinstate something similar. We used it this past July for 10 days and it was GREAT. We signed up 5 people and we could actually have up to 5 boats out. We also brought them extra business because we had friends over a couple of days and paid for their useage. Really, Really, hope they bring something back. Anyone who finds out anything make sure you let us know.
