Does anyone have any idea what is going on with hotel availability in October, specifically the first week. For the longest time it showed virtually no rooms available, but now there are lots of options. Did they open up more rooms, or are people cancelling?

My guess is mostly cancellations. You also have unsold inventory from 3rd party consolidators and convention groups being returned to Disney inventory.

Not sure, but I was very happy to see the availability and was able to switch resorts!

To me, this has been a rolling trend since reopening. Options are thin/availability really tough further out, but then in the weeks leading up to the dates in question options start to open up. People are booking placeholder trips and then figuring out their travel tolerances later on at a large scale, in my opinion. A lot of folks have circled 10/1+ for the anniversary and made reservations a really long time ago. As folks are finalizing their plans now with a clearer picture of offerings, rules, virus trends, etc, you see a lot of shuffling around.

But it’s not just 10/1. I’m a habitual resort changer and I’ve watched the same trend for my May trip, my July trip, and just this past weekend.

There's also a group that used to book in the fall, wait for a room discount, and then call to get the discount applied.

I wonder if some of these are cancelling.

Funny enough today is exactly 30 days out from my Oct. trip. There has been no availability at Pop for months. Now there are standard rooms available. I had to do a one night split because of a changed flight. I think a lot of people waited for today to make a decision.

Or just a little conspiracy theory, Disney just released some saved inventory. After working in hotels, I know we used to do that some times when a busy time was coming. Let others sell out and then we would release our availability at a slightly higher price.
