My husband and I haven’t been to WDW without our kids in close to 19 years! We’re upgrading to annual passholders and have decided to take a trip for our anniversary. We are having a hard time deciding which resort to pick. Here are our options: Animal Kingdom Lodge Club level, Boardwalk Inn standard view, and Grand Floridian Outer Building Garden View. AKL and GF are similar in price. BWI is a couple hundred less overall. It’s going to be short 3 night trip. Which would you pick for an anniversary trip and why?

A little more background: we’ve stayed at POFQ a few times, FW cabins, and the family suites at AOA. We are going a little Disney crazy and have trips planned for WL and BWV with the kids later this year.

For a short stay, and the pricing similar I'd do Grand Floridian. The location being right on the monorail, great dining ( Grand Floridian Cafe ) and being a short ride to the MK are all winners to me.

AKL is great and beautiful, but it's far from everything. ( But if you have your own car this is less of an issue ). This would be my 2nd choice.

I agree with this. We love GF, so it's my first choice.

Another vote for GF, it's a great adult resort. We used to love sitting in the lobby after a long day in the parks and listening to the piano player !

Hi there! And happy anniversary (soon!). :)

When will your trip take place? We have stayed at all 3 of the hotels you've mentioned and love them all...but time/season of year, and any special events happening at the park typically dictate where we choose to stay.

As a PP mentioned, unfortunately the AKL, as gorgeous as it is, presents the biggest transportation challenges, as you have to take a bus/car/Uber to get everywhere. At very busy times of the year, transportation can add a lot of time and frustration, so we personally only choose to stay there during less busy times of the year (and those are getting more and more scarce).

The BWI is walking distance to both EP and HS, so for us, if one or both of those parks are where we plan to spend most of our time, we'll definitely stay at BWI or one of the other EP resorts. During the EP festivals it's particularly wonderful to have quick and easy access to all the wonderful food booths for quick lunches/snacks/whenever. And if I may suggest it, if there's ever room in the budget for one of the garden cottages at BWI (sometimes 35-40% off with an AP discount), they are :cloud9: for an adults only trip.

If the MK is going to be your focus, and/or you'll be going to DAH/MVMCP/MNSSHP, the GF is very convenient because there is boat service even if the Monorail is down (which happens more often than I once realized)...though I can't recall if boats/monorail are up and running after DAH (I'm pretty sure they are after the MVMCP/MNSSHP though).

These are all gorgeous hotels with a lot to offer onsite, so I'm sure you will have a wonderful trip no matter which you choose. And don't be surprised if you find ways to squeeze in more trips once you become APs...we got our APs last April and we live in northern Michigan, but later this month we'll be on our fifth WDW trip in 10 months, lol (split stay between those heavenly garden cottages at BWI and the GF).

Good luck with your decision, and have a wonderful trip! :)

I'm going a little against the general consensus on this. Since you already have other trips planned for the MK and Epcot areas, I would go with AKL. Club level at AKL is my favorite, the entire feeling of the resort is so relaxed and peaceful. The addition of club level benefits for the same price as GF would also be a nice bonus. I guess it just depends on what you're looking for in an anniversary trip...if you're looking for a park-heavy trip, then the perks of club level wouldn't be as important. AKL's pool is gorgeous, and I like the feeling in the club level lounge as well as both hotel lounges. We've taken drinks and coffee from the lounge and relaxed on our balcony. We've also just relaxed at the firepit in the lobby or savanna overlooks.

To me, AKL only seems far from MK. It is really not noticeably further from the other three parks, but then again, the buses don't bother me. I found myself more annoyed with being crammed into the resort monorail on our GF stay. We also have no issue ubering if the bus stop looks crowded, or if we're going to another resort for dinner, etc. Again, it depends what kind of trip you're planning...lots of parks, more resort time? We actually spend most of our time at Animal Kingdom and Epcot instead of MK, so the distance doesn't bother us.

BWI was very convenient to Epcot and had some fun nightlife, but the hotel itself was my least favorite of your three choices. I think it was just a personal preference on theming, there were no glaring issues or anything. We stayed CL at both, and I think I had too high of expectations for BWI CL after all the adoration on these boards haha. The Grand Floridian is beautiful, no doubt, but for some reason to me it seemed SO much busier and wasn't as relaxing for us. We stayed in mid-late November, and maybe it was more crowded than normal due to people checking out the beautiful Christmas decor? The overall vibe of AKL is just more our speed, again, just personal preference.

There are multiple posts in the CL thread showing the food offerings in the lounge, as well as a few recent vlogs on youtube. Depending on the timing, you can enjoy the lounge and amenities prior to actual check-in time and until midnight on checkout day. We've used this when we've had a flight after checkout time. There is really not a bad choice in the bunch, I just think it depends on your personal preference. AKL was our first deluxe stay, and we ended up buying a DVC contract there. We've tried every other deluxe, and they all have their unique perks, but AKL feels like home to us. I'm sure anything you choose will be a wonderful trip, happy anniversary!!

Excellent advice above, IMHO... especially @reluctantredhead and @Ralphmiller007.

I'm a big AKL CL fan, we'd stay here every time if parks weren't on the agenda. To me, if your plans are park heavy... then BWI or GF depending on which park(s) you favor more. Really hard to beat the walkability to Epcot and DHS on a couples weekend from our perspective.

But if a more leisurely resort stay is on the agenda... meals at Jiko, Sanna, relaxing animal watching, etc... then I'd vote AKL CL.

Off topic, but DW and I did the Wanyama Safari at AKL earlier this year. Definitely not cheap, but one of the better (probably best) up-charge experiences we've done a Disney in awhile. It was a great date night.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but for adults only, I would do a Bonnet Creek 1 bedroom Presidential Suite. You won't get the theming, but you will get a BEAUTIFUL 1200sq foot room for less than the price of a 300 sq foot studio villa. I would want the nicer room for an anniversary.

Thanks for everyone’s input and the congrats on our anniversary! It will be 21 years! We decided on the GF, but when we went to book the rate wasn’t available unfortunately, so my husband upped the budget and booked a GF theme park view (outer building). Hoping we won’t regret it and still considering others.

We're doing a couples trip for our 20th anniversary and staying at the Grand Floridian garden view (outer building). We always stay at Epcot resorts since we spend a lot of time there, but I've always wanted to try GF. We've also had dinner at AKL and think that resort is gorgeous. Would like to stay there sometime.
