Has anyone had a pearl (or diamond) ring resized after weight loss? My ring is really loose now, but I'm so afraid to get it resized. If anything were to go wrong-I think of it as a one of a kind. DH gave it to me for our 25th anniversary (a few months early). We went to the "Pick a Pearl" place by the BC, where he picked the pearl and I picked the setting. I wear it in place of an engagement ring (since, 25 years ago, we felt we couldn't afford one). It's so special to me, I'm petrified to get it resized. Can anyone make me less fearful?

It's an easy process. I used to work for a goldsmith. They just cut the part of the ring that is on the underside of your finger, take the piece out to make it the smaller and soder it back together. I don't know what type of setting you've got your ring in, if it's sterling you may just want to have the pearl reset in a different setting. If it's 14K make sure you ask for the piece of gold back that they take out of the ring if it's several sizes or tell them if they want to keep the gold to take it's worth off the price they charge to resize. No sense in giving them the gift of free gold.

Hope that helps.

You HAVE to do it! I lost my wedding band (a diamond anniversary band!!) in the ocean several years ago after losing 45 pounds. I hadn't bothered to get it resized...and then one day *poof* it simply fell off. :sad1: I did end up replacing it, and I do love my new one....but the memories and sentimental value of the origanal is irreplaceable. :sad2:

I have this problem right now. I wear 2 gold wedding rings, and they are so loose they have fallen off several times already, thankfully I was able to pick them right back up each time though. I have lost 65 pounds and need to have these resized. I was waiting until I lost the last 20 pounds that I still have to go to my goal weight, but I think I am going to do it sooner. I am so paranoid I am going to lose them, I have started wearing them on the next larger finger, but it bugs me, lol.

Thanks for the tip about the gold.

I work in a jewerly store and the rule of thumb is 1 1/2 size up or down is fine anything after that can affect the setting. Where I work if you get it sized more than that you will void your warrenty. Hope this helps
