Since becoming members @ SSR in '04 with 175 points, we've added on 3x directly through Disney @ AKV for a total of 360 points. This is plenty of points to go each summer for 10 nights in a 1 bed, at various resorts. We relunctantly added on last year because the point reallocations cost us close to 40 points.

Hubby decided this week that he wanted us to look for a resale @ OKW for extra trips in March or December (I'm a teacher). I was able to convince him that having 460 points is not necessary! We have no other debt besides house, and could pay cash, but that is money that can be used to pay down the house even faster. Better usage of funds, as far as I'm concerned. I also cancelled our March trip as well, and I know he's upset by that too, but we went last March (it was the busiest I have ever seen it!), and so we weren't planning on going this coming March.

Our dues are at $1722.00 USD, and fluctutate, depending upon the exchange rate, but since it's at par at the moment, hubby thought we should add-on. As usual, I was the voice of reason who said, absolutely not! I wouldn't be a good timeshare salesperson. LOL!

I convinced him that we needed to take more advantage of banking points into our next UY, so this way, we could take an extra trip every other year as we would have extra points. No need for an add-on, plus it keeps our dues in check. Problem solved!

I read so many threads where people seem to be constantly adding on, but I have to imagine that there are lots of people out there like us, who just can't justify anymore add-ons...so, how do you get over the guilt to the other person whom you have disappointed?

Just give in to it and let the Magic flow!!! :goodvibes

If you don't need the points, there is no need to add more points.

Maybe you could rent some OKW points and take a surprise March trip.

We bought into DVC about three years ago with 210 points at BCV. Since then we have aded on two 30 point contracts also at BCV for a total of 270. So we have enough for a week every year.

While every now an then I see a TTS contract that is well priced, I just don't have the incentive to buy any more at this point. DW wants to go to Italy instead, which at the current exchange rates is way out now that the dollar is diving (or I should say crashing) vs the Euro.

We are in CT which is practically Canada - after all , we both have multi hour flights, snow and locations that start with the letter C. So if you don't really need the points, don't waste the money. Being the voice of reason is a good thing and you don't need to up your yearly expenses just for the purpose of having extra points in case you might want to have an extra trip. There are tons of DVCers that are selling because they are out of cash. You don't want to ever be in that position, expecially if you are retired and on a fixed income.

Best of luck on your decision.

tomandrobin - Thanks! We do have enough points for a March trip, so no need to rent. I want to bank some of those points, in order to use for a Christmas trip.

corpcomp - You hit the nail on the head! More points aren't necessary, and in fact, we'd have points leftover, so once I presented my entire case to hubby, he was better about it. We talked about it more last night, and he was thankful that I reminded him that we need to start banking points. We are only using 266 for 10 nights in a Value 1 bed AKV in July (love that!), so we have 94 to bank. Yeah!! We need to take advantage of things where we can. We have really shaved a ton off of our dining budget as well, as we used to constantly eat at TS meals, as we don't eat out at home. Now, we actually like preparing meals in our villa, so more money saved. We love seeing the money in the bank, instead of in Disney's pockets! Hubby always wants to do more, and I reminded him that some people never even get to Disney, yet we have had multiple trips, and continue to go each year. He has come around to my side, so no more add-ons!

Hope you both enjoy your next DVC trips, Tiger :)

I'd say we have fewer points than we'd ideally like to have to easily afford our ideal trips and trip schedule. But with a little creativity we've been able to meet or mostly meet our Disney vacation desires on a regular basis and have fantastic family getaways.

Personally I'd much rather have too few points than too many. I don't want to stress about what to do about extra points and I'd much rather have less money committed longterm to dues, etc. We just take one year at a time and do what we can with our points and supplement somehow if absolutely necessary. It's not like there aren't other places to stay and/or points available to rent/transfer. :thumbsup2

We own another timeshare as well and have decided that we are set for a very long time. We'd rather our additional travel funds go towards other types of travel needs. I could maybe us buying more points or another week or two for retirement but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it and pay less dues in the meantime.
