Hi. I have been an owner since 2015 and recently bought a new contract resale, same UY, but different resort. The contract I just bought has some banked 2020 points that will expire Jan 31, 2022. I currently have a reservation booked in Aug that used 2021 points from my first contract at our home resort. Before I sit on hold for hours with member services, I wanted to confirm whether or not I can have them reallocate the points on my current reservation. So for example, could I use the 2020 points from my new contract on my existing Aug reservation? That way I can have those 2021 points back to bank. Hopefully I explained that well enough.... TIA!

I don't have the same situation as you. My contracts have different UYs and resorts, so different contract numbers. If you have two different contract numbers, you can't reallocate points to your current reservation. I had a similar situation when we picked up our last resale contract.

The answer to your question is...MAYBE.

If the reservation was made during the home resort booking period then you will only be permitted to reallocate the non-home resort points to it if there are still nights available to book now that we are within 7 months. And even with that, the points will be taken in the following order:
  • Holding points - first the home resort then the new contract
  • Banked points - home resort first, other resort second
  • Borrowed points - home resort before the new one
  • Transferred - the very last set of points taken.

If the reservation was made 7 months or less before arrival, then you can reallocate the points from the new contract even if no nights are currently available but the order in which points are taken will remain the same.

Thank you this was very helpful! I figured it might be this way to keep the integrity of home resort advantage. I did book at 11 months and there is no availability so I will keep it as is.

Thanks again!

I will say to keep checking prior to the 31 day window for the trip. If a night here or there shows up, then you can modify what you have, check the new contract as well, and rebook it without changing a thing. The system should then pull the banked points and free up others.

The reason you don’t want to do less than 31 days is any freed up points become holding, even with modifications. Some people have thought it is only cancellations and it’s any change to points used within 31 days.

Thank you that's good advice. If a do see a day or two open, do I need to call to have them modify? Or would the online modify took be able to handle that? I have 8 nights at a BWV standard studio so I certainly don't want to risk losing it!

Just do it yourself, modify, don’t change a thing to the dates, click the new and old contracts, and just keep going and book. You will not lose what you have!

Awesome - thank you so much!

Thought I read that if there is more than one membership is involved, a cancel & rebook is required. That carries a risk of losing the reservation.

The OP didn't say if both contracts are in the same membership, just that they have the same use year.

They are under the same membership #, same UY, but different resorts.

So I just tried to do this because I saw there was one night open. I modified it, kept the dates and when it showed my contracts, the BWV showed locked (that I couldn't uncheck that option to have it use points from there first). I went ahead and selected my SSR contract as well since it didn't seem like I would lose anything by hitting confirm. What it ended up doing was taking 3 banked 2020 points from the SSR contract, but nothing from SSR 2021 since I couldn't change that BWV would be used first. Any idea why? Aside from the 3 2020 points mentioned, all points would have been 2021 so why would it make me default to use BWV first if I am under 7 months?

I mean I'm happy it used the 3 points because I thought I was just going to lose them, but confused why it forced me to use the BWV contract first since one night was available.

So it showed you the contract which the reservation was originally booked with as grayed out and you then selected the SSR contract and when modified it took 3 banked points from SSR instead of all from BWV? did you only have 3 banked points to use? I think this is the way it is suppose to work as it goes through and takes the banked points (or borrowed)in the contracts first and then uses current year.

Yes it took the 3 banked. I guess my confusion/question is why couldn't I have chosen to take the remaining points for that one night available from the 2021 SSR points?

Sorry. I think my post was a little confusing as I was only talking banked points. It will only pick up the banked points from a non home resort if the contract is locked because of a home resort priority when doing it online. It will also use your BWV banked first as well.

The current UY points are only taken in the order of the contracts and all banked points must be used first. When a contract is locked it has to be done in that order.

When the nights open at beginning or end, you have to book with the non home resort points and then adjust.

So, in this case, any and all of the banked SSR points can be used for nights that show up, after all the banked BWV are used. If you have more banked BWV points in the reservation already, it’s not going to pick up too many SSR.

ok thanks! I'm just happy I found a way to use the 3 points, but wanted to make sure I understood for the future. Thanks for being so helpful!

I'd still stalk for the first or last date. Book using SSR, then modify to cancel that date on the BW points. Leave it in a bunch of pieces, who cares. Combine the reservations in a few months.

I was able to do this with a couple of my VGF bookings. If your BW booking was in a couple different reservations, this would be even easier, because more of the dates would be first or last.
