reserving using cash for Jan. question

I am wanting to reserve 6 nights on pts. and 2 on cash for a trip the end of Jan. Since the prices haven't been announced, how will MS handle this? I start calling tomorrow and the cash nights are the last 2 but I'm not sure how they'll handle those nights.

I just reserved a cash night for March. MS took a credit card number to reserve the room (but didn't charge the card) and told me that I will be notified when prices are released and can cancel the reservation if I do not like the price (as if I'm going to cancel !).

May I ask...if I add a cash night to the end of the "point" reservation, do I have to check out of the room and check back in?

We've always had them link the reservations at MS so we don't have to change rooms.

If you book the cash nights through MS, they are considered one DVC stay combined with your points nights. You will get keys for the entire linked reservation. Your housekeeping schedule will be combined. So if you do Fri & Sat on cash, then Sun to Thurs on points, your trash & towel will be on Monday.

Are cash nights always available, or are they like leftover rooms? Also, If I'm booking my point DVC stay in July for a Jan/Feb trip, when and how do I find out availability of cash reservations to add-on to the trip?

I've heard that they are not always available. I have booked 3 cash nights thus far and all for Fri and Sat nights. I booked one VWL night at 11 mo out and booked the second one 9 months out. I got my OKW cash night 13 days out. Just call MS in the morning and ask if they have cash availability for your desired nights.
