Reserving Seats with US Airways

Hi,
I was looking at perhaps booking flights with US Airways for next March/April. I haven't actually booked with them before but I remember when I looked at their website in the past you could reserve seats for free at time of booking, It doesn't seem to mention this anymore, nor does it tell you if you can reserve in advance. Does anyone know what the procedure is with pre booking/booking seats?
Thanks
Rach

I will be watching this as think we might be booking with them too

I booked with Us Airways earlier this year and telephoned their customer service UK telephone number to book our seats. I got the best price direct on their website :)

This is the tel number 0845 6003300.

We are booked with US Airways. Once you have your booking code then you can go into their website and book all your seats for all flights FOC.

We're booked with US Airways (again) for oct/nov

you are automatically assigned seats on a front to back basis. (the sooner you book, the further to the front you are (first available row that can accomodate your party)

Next, as soon as you receive your eticket number, or confirmation number, you can log on to the US Airways website, and change your seat assignements for free whenever you want.

Note that some seats are actually more expensive than others (aisle and window, for the first few rows in economy)
you won't know this unless the row on the opposite side of the plane is unoccupied and you see there is an extra fee for that seat.

If you've been assigned a more expensive seat (at no charge) automatically upon booking, you will still be able to change your seat assignment, but if you decide to revert to the original seats, you'll have to pay for the surcharged for that specific seat (hope this makes sense)

Thanks for the info and advice. This may sound daft but is there any way to see how many seats are already booked before I book? I ask this because I am a very nervous flyer and dread sitting near the back and wouldn't be happy booking if I was to be allocated seats near the back. I know you said you can change them but surely if you are near the back it's because the other rows in front are already booked. Plus I am looking at flight round about Easter next year so I presume this will be a very busy time? Also those that have flown with them, how did you find it? I have read some horrible reviews about old planes etc and again being a nervous (well more terrified) flyer it makes me dubious to book.
Thanks for all the advice,
Rach

Also, in case this happens with you, I'm booked to fly MAN-PHL-MCO with US Aiways. Both legs of the flight have the same flight number and so, according to US Airways, I'm unable to view the seat maps or change my seats online - I have to do it over the phone. I can see the seats I've been assigned online (so I can spot any changes), but I can't view the map or do anything. That being said, calling them has always been super fast and easy.

no, but you can see the seat map, so you can see the available seats at the time you look at the map

go to US Airways US page, choose "book flights", enter your itinerary and dates
on the result page you'll see a "seats" button in the travel time column
this will allow you to see the available seats at THAT time

but remember that seats assignments are not guaranteed.
Once you've booked, check often, because sometimes they merge flights and someone in your party gets bumped a few rows back. Happened to me a few weeks ago, but we eventually all got reconnected together 3 rows behind our original location, mind you we're on row 14, front part of the wing section.

as long as you book early enough (we booked 8 months out) you should be ok

a busy or a slow time does not exist anymore
your flight will be booked solid wether you fly in october or for Easter.

prettuy good.
Flight attendants were very nice, food was ok (smaller portions than on other airlines but they won't let you starve to death :) )
very nice selection of in flight movies, shows, music and games for kids

I have read some horrible reviews about old planes etc and again being a nervous (well more terrified) flyer it makes me dubious to book.

you'll get a A330 for the transatlantic flight. Very nice plane to fly in.
You might get an A320 for the domestic flight, or maybe a 737 which are both nice planes
The planes I've flown in with US Airways were all ok

the only time I was "disappointed" with an airline was with United who get you across the atlantic on a 757 which is a close to a sardine can as a plane can get when it comes to transatlantics.

All in all, US Airways is definitely not the worse airline to fly with (and they're cheap)

If you use the off airport check in service on your return they will book your seats for you. We had booked our seats but lost them due to a change of aircraft but once we arrived at the off airport check in facility they were able to sort it out and seat us all together.

We are booked with US Airways for next Easter, we called them and booked our seats all the way through and coming back too. The staff were great, now just have to wait the 239 days until we fly.

Never flown with them before but have seen a lot of positive feedback.

Just looked at their website before logging on here a little while ago. I'd forgotten about them! What, roughly are you paying for flights with US Airways and when is this for (general question for anyone) :)

We flew with them last Xmas and were really happy with them. The flights all took off on time, the plane was nice and had a good entertainment system with on demand movies etc and the food was good. I wouldn't hesitate to book with them again :thumbsup2

I think we paid around £650 each for next Easter (no-one tell me I could have got it cheaper or I will cry) and I was happy with that as it is at the start of the kids Easter Holidays.

Accommodation is all sorted (apart from a few days at the end), next thing will be ticky ticks, car hire, hotel the night before going and car parking. OMG we still have so much to do.

Don't worry - they came up really expensive for me but it's one more site for me to add to the daily checking list. It could be my route as we fly from Scotland. Sitting well over 700 pp at the moment which is a good 100 quid more than the average for other airlines - except VA which is a cool £1200 per set of butt cheeks
