Reserving other than "home" resorts

OK, probably a very stale question at this point so please forgive me. It seems there are better deals out there on the secondary market for the older DVC resorts. If I was to purchase one of these what are my reservation restrictions at another resort. I do know that I would not be able to book as far in advance as a member that belongs to that particular resort. Are you getting what you want more often than not? Does it take more points to reserve at a resort other than your home resort?

To book at a non home resort would be at 7 months...which you probably knew. Is it hard? It all depends on the time of year you travel. For example, the F&W is coming up....it would be very difficult to book BWV and BCV. So consider your travel times before you decide. Most will say to buy where you want to stay. But if you aren't going to be upset about not getting your first choice than resale at OKW and SSR would be a great deal. Also DVC busy times may differ than the regular park busy times. The veteran DVC'ers can tell you when the real busy times are.....I'm still not sure...all I know is the F&W is crazy.

Each resort has their own point chart, so some rsorts take more points than otheres, but there is not difference in points used at a particular resort whether you own there or own at another DVC.

You can book your home resort 11 months prior to your stay, other resorts at 7 months. Some (the smaller) resorts and seasons do book up fully during the 11 month window, in effect blocking those that do not own there, but waitlists often come through.

Remember that all DVC resorts (except Saratoga Springs) will expire in 2042, Saratoga expires in 2054, so if you are at an age that those additional 12 years will be useful to you, that may be a big advantage.

Also note that some resorts may not be the best deal long term. For instance, Vero Beach is reasonable as far as resale prices, but currently has the highest annual dues.

at WDW - both OKW and SSR are less points generally than the others.

OKW especially. BWV standard points are also alot less. to get the standard view points at BWV - I would suggest owning at BWV.
