Reserved rooms for Non-DVC members?

I have a question for the DVC experts!

Working with a DVC member to rent points for a trip Oct 6 - Oct 12 at OKW. When he called member services they told him a studio was not available for all 6 nights - SSR was available though. If I call Disney CRO, I can get a studio for the same dates. Are there certain rooms blocked for the general public??

Yes in a way.

When a member uses his points to stay somewhere else (non-DVC) - concierge collection, adventure collection (anywhere else - expect world passport) - then the points go as a reservation to CRO - who then rents them.

Also at all the DVC resort DVD kepts 5 to 3% - in case of work being needed - if there is no work scheduled then MS rents these points.

So yes there can definitely be a cash reservation for your time but no reservation available using points - very easily.

Spicey is right. They come from two different inventories.

Hi
A little OT but a related issue that has bothered me is that I can only book at my home resort 11 months in advance yet cash customers can book a full 12. While we always go during non-peak times, it has to be frustrating for those trying to book at prime times at their home resort 11 months out just to be told that there is no availability due to cash ressies made up to 30 days earlier.

Are not some options for point use outside of DVC resorts available for booking much earlier than 11 months? If so, when are the points associated with this type of usage transfered to CRO?

:goodvibes do this happen to you???

I have never heard of this happening to any DVC member?

Now the standard view (BWV) at busy times like Thankgiving can be gone quickly.

but that is because DVC member know it is a busy time and get on those phones when member services opens. to get the few standard views (BWV)that are there. if you get MS when it first opens at exactly the 11month day - then you can get the standard view for Thanksgiving or Dec 1-14 - any later even 11am the same day - well it could indeed be 'no rooms availability'

I don't think any DVC member making reservations at their DVC home resort at the 11th month has EVER been told it was full.

on the other hand there have been complaints on the resort board about not being able to made reservations at the DVC resorts - because all the rooms are gone and CRO is not expecting anymore until the 60 day mark.

I tell them to go rent points from a DVC member - who can make their reservation.

I believe those points follow the usage of their original use year.

So theorectically, at 12 months there could be a significant amount of inventory that transfers to CRO? Before anyone is able to exercise their 11 month Home Resort reservation rights?

Maybe I'm missing something :confused3

No - the 60 day mark is just that - 60 days before reservation start.

It has nothing to do with the point use year.

You can make reservations in 11 month in advance no matter what your use year is...

As I say - I have never heard of a DVC member trying to make reservation at the 11month time and being told 'no room availability'.

has it happened???? -(besides standard view rooms at BWV - there are still preferred view availability)

I think some of us are talking about different things. Points traded INTO the Disney Collection exchange, might be available before the 60 days, but that is assuming that they were traded at the 11 month window. CRO would alos have access to the 4% of rooms that remain in Disney inventory and are not sold to members. That also would account for some reservations from CRO before availability from DVC. At any rate, there will always be enough inventory for each member at their 11 month booking window.
