Ok, last night I reserved a car through Alamo and didn't realize that I was actually going to reserve it yet b/c I hadn't put in a credit card. I got a confirmation # and email though. Does this sound right? I'm new at rental cars. I also couldn't find up to when you could cancel it. What's the deal? Like I said, I'm new here. Is this a bad deal while we're at it. I got a Chevy Equinox (Mid-size SUV) for 8 days for a total of $210. Thanks!

Hi!!

You don't need a cc to make a reservation with Alamo. You do, however need one if you decide to pick the rental up.

210.00 isn't a great deal, but I would keep it until I found a cheaper rate. Did you use any codes? Check out Mousesavers for some good ones.

To cancel it, simply go to your confirmation email and click on the line that says to view/edit/modify/cancel reservation. It will let you cancel with no problems. Also if you go to Alamo's site, on the top right hand corner (I think) theres a view/modify/cancel link as well. You need your confirmation # for that way though.

Good luck!!

SO what would be a good rate? That rate is anywhere form $80 to $180 less then anywhere I've looked. I went through every rentel and code that I could find on mousesavers and that's the best I could come up with. It's through Costco. If you know of a better way or place to look please let me know. I've searched using kyak and orbitz and places also. I could use all of the help I can get learning how to do this.

By todays standards ,its not that bad of a rate (for a mid size SUV).
As mentioned, you have keep checking the likes of National,Dollar,Alamo etc and from time to time you will find these good rates come out of the blue (using the codes suggested here - http://www.rentalcodes.com/ )
I typically book and cancel and rebook several times over until I have the best deal.

I wouldn't say it's a good or bad rate. How many days, when are you going?
I'm going 2nd week in June for 9 days and booked our mid size suv Feb 1, after going though 4-5 different book, cancel, rebook resies with both alamo and national before I ended up with what I thought was a GREAT rate. $210 sounds pretty resonable for a 7 day rental. Keep checking like mentioned above, and booking and canceling as you find cheaper rates. I started with having a Dodge magmun from National for $225, Then a mid size suv at Alamo for $182, then found a cheaper rate again from alamo for $134.

I didn't mean to imply it was a bad deal, I just didn't think it was "great" Sorry for the mis-type ;) :goodvibes

Just keep checking. If that's the best you can find, then it's a great rate ;) . As OP have said, it also depends on the time of year you are going. We have the same vehicle rented for 10 days for the same $, the rate has since gone up though. Usually we don't pay over $200. for a rental for this time, we've gotten some GREAT deals though. I think it was because the "mid-size" SUV's were a new class size they were offering.

I just keep checking and rechecking, if the rate drops I rebook, and then cancel my other ressie.

Check BJ'S wholesale club too, they are usually the same as Costco, but doesn't hurt to check!!! Good luck, I hope you can save some more!!!!

Ok, the rentle is for 8 days this Aug. Thanks for the website w/ the codes. I was just using what I found at mousesavers. I will check them out and keep looking for a better deal than $210. Maybe I'll get lucky. Thanks!
