Are resevations a must? We like to eat when we're hungry and that time varies each day.

From the DDP Faq at the top of this forum:

Do I have to make prior advanced dining reservations for all my Table Service meals?
Advance Dining Reservations, (ADRs),. are not required but STRONGLY suggested. The popularity of the DDP has led to many restaurants being fully booked months in advance. If you have your heart set on eating at a special place, make the reservation so you know you have a spot. You can walk up the day you are in the park and attempt a walkup list, but you may have a long wait or be turned away. You may make ADRs 180 days in advance.

(From my experience I saw people being turned away at every restaurant on our trip 2 years ago - not during free dining either. There were signs in front of guest relations tellingpeople there were no reservations available for the day in the MK, to call dining and se if any were available anywhere on property. This is not a situation I would want to be in. Unless you plan to eat all fast food meals it is a very good idea to make plans now. If you are going for free dining you will want to call soon, many places are alrwady full during that time.)

If you want any place other then your basic table services or counter service places, you're going to need reservations.

I agree. We have seen people each trip walking up to TS restaurants and being turned away because they are booked solid for the day. If you do not mind CS or taking your chances on a less popular TS, you may be Ok. But if there is anywhere that you absolutely want to dine, I would make an ADR.

What time of year are you going. If during free dining it is now probably to late to get what you want. But there are many good CS restaurants to consider and these are always available. It may be best for you not to do the DDP (unless it is free DDP) cause if you don't use your TS credits it would be less expesnive to do everything OOP.

Even if you are going during free ddp...I would call asap. while you may not get the times you want others have posted that they were able to get the places they wanted at a different time...or they may have to do a lunch instead of a dinner. Regardless I would not try it without an ADR. Just try and base it off of your almost normal time...even if it differs I am sure it is usually with a certaint ime frame. I would recommend adr's on the ddp or not...you dont want to wait until your hungry before you try and find a place to eat...been there done that..no better now! Good luck to you!
