How are ressies made with multiple use year contracts - do you book a few days with one and a few days with the other? I would need to borrow from both to book the length of stay we want as well as the room size. If I borrow back can they be transferred. How does all of this work as I am looking at an add on with a different use year then my current contract.

Thanks!!

Forgot to turn on notifications :)

Thanks to anyone that knows how this all works :):thumbsup2

If the resale has a different UY than your current contract, it will be a separate master contract. Unless you use your once a year transfer in or out to combine the points, you won't be able to use a few points from one with a few points of the other to make a single night.

For example, one master contract has 7 points left. The other has 10 points left. You need 12 points to make a single night reservation. Unless you transfer two points to the contract with 10 points or five points to the one with seven points, you won't be able to book a single night with either of them.

If you bank points from one year into another, you won't be able to transfer those banked points to your other contract. You can only transfer current year points.

You could make three nights with one contract and four nights with the other and ask for them to be linked into a single 7 night reservation. Or whatever combination you have.

If you transfer from one to the other, the transferred points will retain their UY and resort.

Unless you have a specific reason for wanting a different use year, I would advise against it. It limits your flexiblility for combining points.

If you purchase the same use year as you current contract, even through resale, DVC can make it a sub-contract under your current membership, simlar to adding on throuh Disney directly. Make sure DVC member accounting is aware of your desire to do that before the resale closes.

We have two use years. You don't "mix" them as to one particular night. You book some nights with one contract and some with the other and then link the reservations so they become one reservation for any trip, all of which you can do in a single call. Been doing it for years.

Just curious. With the new booking policy, can you do this at the 11 month window and still book 7 nights, say 3 from one contract and 4 from the other? -- Suzanne

To book at 11 months both contracts would have the same UY and that would be unlikely.

No, in the situation you describe, you would book the first 3 nights with one contract 11 months in advance of date of arrival and for the last 4 nights, you would call to reserve 11 months in advance of that fourth night (first night under the second contract)

Is that an issue for us? No. We sometimes go during Christmas so that extremely high demand time might create some concern over the issue but we generally use only one contract for that time. For rest of the year when we go, we never had any problem reserving under old rule -- waiting to 11 months from your expected departure date to reserve the whole thing under two contracts; in fact we always did that for Christmas time and never had a problem (while others reported doing the day to day booking). For other times of year we have gone we never even made a reservation under that 11 month rule but usually made the call closer to 10 to 10 1/2 months out (and sometimes 8 or 9). We own at AKV and BWV and usually get a 2BR and we have always gotten what we wanted including always getting BWV boardwalk view. The other times we have gone include various spring break weeks, Easter time, various weeks during summer , Thanksgiving, October, various times in January, Memorial Day time. In fact the only month during which we have never used DVC is September and from all reports that is about the easiest time to get (if you are from Chicago, you will understand why we have never gone in September -- it is the best month of the year weatherwise in Chicago).

The ability to book 11 months out when competing with others is generally far easier than one may perceive by reading all the posts about the issue on this board. For most everything most times of year calling 11 months out without "walking" the reservation should create no problem at all. What I have seen from these boards as the actual potential risky areas where day to day under old rule or "walking" under new might (and only might) be considered are the following: (a) getting a standard view studio (other sizes do not appear to have the issue), at BWV, or a studio at BCV or VWL, during first half of December, Christmas time, and Easter; (b) getting AKV concierge or a GV anywhere during at least first two weeks of December and holidays (unclear for other times but risk may exist at other times). BLT has no experience yet but suspicons may arise for standard view studios and MK view studios where one may consider "walking" certain times of year.

Thank you all for your assistance with this! It has been very helpful.

For the 11 month rule, mine would be June and Sept Use years - I could still book 11 months prior to my trip because they are both my home resort just as long as all the points are availabel for when we travel, correct.

If I wanted to go in November I could book in January using both the contracts (June and Sept) because it is still 11 months out and both contracts would have all of this use years points.

It sounds like I need to make sure to use equally from both to keep them equal when I bank so I do not run into a problem.

Now I almost hope Disney does the ROFR to my contract, okay not really, but maybe :) :) :)

Thanks!!!!

Does anyone know what DVC is selling OKW at right now?

Drsuba - I am a CNY person and we save it for the colder months too -when you just want to get away :) !!!!!! See something other then white for a few days.

You are correct that you can make a reservation using both contracts (but getting different days out of each) as long as points are available when you make the trip. You are incorrect that if you want to go in November, you have to wait until January to call-- December is 11 months out so you can earlier than Jan (don't feel embarrased, I always have to count on my fingers to get the 11 month and 7 month periods right). When looking at what points you use for a trip (or whether you need to bank for a trip) always focus on date you will be there not date you reserve. You can always reserve 11 months out at home resort. Thus for a Nov 2010 trip, June 2010 and Sep 2010 would be the "current" use year points for that trip and you can call to reserve in Dec 09. If you had points from June 09 or Sep 09, you would need to bank them into the 2010 use year to use those for a Nov 2010 trip.

Also in using both contracts, it is not really an issue of trying to use the points equally for any trip.I have done it different ways: for example, I may book as many nights as I possibly can out of one contract and then bank the little that is left over, and then go to the second contract and book any other nights and then bank the even more points that leftover in that one, and then the next year do the same except use almost all of the points in the second contract for as many nights as possible first. There are several options and it is not really that difficult to keep track of what you are doing.

I believe OKW is in the $104 range from Disney currently but not sure of that

Thank you - that is what I thought and I am glad to hear that it was correct. We are still waiting for ROFR on our Sept - my main contract is June and was with my first buy in. Resale is so much lower right now that I wanted to go for it. I love OKW - it is quiet and laid back. I am sure at some point I will want to try the other resorts too but for now we are happy :thumbsup2

I always do that with the 11 month thing :rotfl2:

I have a total of 4 contracts - 1 with a large point balance & the other are add-on contracts. We made sure to get the same UY for each one. We just find it easier for us.

Thank you for an easy to understand view of working with multiple contracts with different use years. I don't know why people are so afraid of multiple UYs here on the DVC boards. Yes - it does take a little more effort, but no, its not impossible to understand.
