<sigh> every time I think I have a handle on this subject someone else asks me a question that make me go hmmm umm...:confused3

Apparently a second cousin on my dad's side has bought SSR (now the family thinks it's a great idea! when I talked about it it was a bad one:headache: )

Anyway despite the fact I don't know this woman from Adam, someone gave her my phone number and she asked/complained about the following situation:

okay I'm paraphasing for my own mental easement...

You've just bought in and have a Feb UY (say 2007), and you use your full allotment of points in April 2007. You now decide you want to make a reservation March 2008. Since it's 10 months out, thats fine, but is it considering borrowing to make the reservation for 2008 with 2008 points in 2007?

I thought NO but she was insistant that the reservation was made with borrowed points now and if she cancels the reservation she'd have to use the point by Jan 31 2008. She said this was because she made a ressie before her UY hit again.

Now I'm positive that UY has nothing to do with when you can make reservations, but I have to admit I'm a little hazy as to mechanics of making the ressies since well... I don't have actual experience with that yet. And I am not anywhere near as convinced of my facts as she is.:sad2:

Can anyone clarify this for me? As best I understand she has used all her 2007 points for a trip this year, and has made a reservation for 2008 using 2008 points so borrowing shouldn't enter into the equation right? If it was for Jan 2008 then yes I could see the need to borrow but if the reservation is for after your UY month then it's another pool of points right?

eek! I'm confusing myself!:dance3:

TIA!

Michelle

She does not have to borrow points in order to make her reservation for March of 2008. She will get points on February 1 of 2008 and those points will be used.

I agree with wildernessDad. With a Feb UY, she could make the Mar '08 reservation 11 months prior to checkout regardless of her UY. She can use any of the following for that reservation: banked '07 points, '08 points, and/or borrowed '09 points.

Given the circumstances you've described, I'd say you need an exit strategy from this insistent person. I'd suggest having her call MS and have them clarify her points situaton and options. I fear the more you help, the deeper you'll be in the hole w/her.

I agree with all of the responses thus far, but this is best of litter!

Is the UY really Feb. It sounds like it is not in which case a reservation in March 2008 would be borrowing for an April UY or later.

Oh I couldn't agree more! Unfortunately we get to meet face to face this coming weekend at a family reunion:scared1: (among other things someone told her I can put all her pictures online for her:eek: I really need to talk to or kill a sister) One thing I won't do is direct her to the message boards, I need a place to hide:rolleyes1 beside why ruin the neighborhood?:rotfl: Actually I suggested she speak with her guide vs MS - it's likely to be a long conversation and I didn't see the point of her tieing up MS.

If her info is correct she has a Feb UY, used the points in May and is made reservations for lateFeb to early Mar 2008. I did ask specifically about her UY cause I could see it being borrowing if it was a later UY. She said Feb

<scratch head> still a couple of things don't add up. I got the impression they bought direct from Disney and recently. If that was the case how'd they get a Feb UY? I guess some could be available from ROFR.:confused3 OTOH if they did get it via resale then they could have had banked points and she got the 2 confused.

Still, nice to know I had the basics right. with a Feb UY, if you made a ressie for Jan 2008 you'd have to borrow, for Feb 2008- Jan 2009 it comes from the pool for that UY provided no banking or borrowing has happened. Right?

Per my niece, the hubby half of that pair is the sensible one - I'll see how it goes this weekend. It's also possible (based on my brief experience) that hubby told her what he thought she could understand vs what they actually have.:rotfl2:

Thanks for the replies all!

Most families have at least one person that is timeshare challenged, many families unfortunately don't have a counter balance for that problem. My wife loves the trips but doesn't have a lot of understanding of how timeshares work overall. She has gotten better though.
