We are trying to plan a trip to FW (arriving)Feb20-(departing)Mar4th.
We will be tenting with two teenagers and two dogs.
Are reservations necessary? If so, what is the best way to go about it?
We've never tented before. Is there a list of 'things to pack' available?
Thanks, Linda

Reservations are vital. Call now and see if you can get in--FW is very popular (and for good reason!).

Someone else will have to help you with the tenting info. I do know that you'll have to use the kennels for your dogs if you are staying in a tent, though.

I've never tented at FW, but I did read once that a pad for the bottom of the tent is very important in order to keep the moisture out.

Your dogs will have to be kenneled during the day while you're at the park.

Yes, reservations are a must! Give Central Reservations (CRO) a call at (407) W-DISNEY. I've read on other posts that sometimes when folks have been told FW is full, to call back every morning to see if that's changed because the computer refreshes the system every night and thus any cancellations will show up as availabilities the next day. It's not out of the question that FW could be booked full this time of year!

As for tenting in general, when you make a reservation, you may have to settle for a full-hook up site, depending on what's available (there are only 2 "tenting" partial-hook up loops, and I don't think either of those are designated pet loops anyway). Make sure you let the reservationist know that you will be tenting so that you can hopefully get a site with a larger sand pad (as opposed to a larger concrete pad, which is better for a big RV). Yes, also make sure that you have a vapor barrier under the tent (visqueen, tarp or similar plastic). Sleeping pads help with warmth and comfort, too!

Good luck and have a blast!!

Here is a link to a great camping info site:
http://www.title-3.com/FWFacts.htm

(you may have to copy-and-paste it into your browser).

Once there, scroll down the left-hand column and there is a link to a "camping checklist". I think this guy does pop-up camping but the general info is still useful. He also has info on camping with your dogs!

We tried to get reservations at FW a couple months ago for this past weekend and they were totally booked. When we went out to FW on Sunday I could see that they were completely full! I couldn't believe it even in the tent area. Good Luck! Hope they are able to find you a site. Even if you can't get a spot be sure to go out and check out all the fun stuff to do out there. We really enjoyed the campfire sing-a-long with Chip and Dale.

This time of year you will need to get reservations. IF they are booked keep calling, cause peeps do cancel.
Not a tenter, but they do have tent loops or you can pay more and stay in the other loops. Theres nothing wrong with the tent loops, some people tenting just prefer to be in tent loops rather than gazing at 2 million dollar rv's parked next to them in the preferred loops.

Thats one reason alone the place is SO popular, many people are practically wintering at FT W in these land yachts.

You definately need to discuss the pooches, as there ARE rules with tenters about dogs. Also not all loops allow animals. Dogs are to be leashed at all times when 'outside'.

I don't think any of the tent/basic loops allow for dogs, so you would have to go to the next level anyway.

CALL FT WILDERNESS AND ASK THEM about what you will require -- then you can begin calling reservations every morning for the chance that someone has cancelled.
