Just got off the phone with MS to reserve our time for next year. I never asked for any requests until the very end of our conversation and wasn't asked if I had any except for smoking or non-smoking.

At the end of the reservation process I inquired if I might make a request. I was told I could but please remember they are only requests and not to count on them. She was very professional with the statement but also very firm. I told her I realize they are requests only and I'll be happy just being there. If we got our requests it would just be icing on the cake.

This was very different than the first time I made reservations. I was asked what requests I had besides the smoking/nonsmoking. The CM even described different views without me asking.

I quess my question would be, is MS changing all the villas over to the policy that they were testing out at OKW?

Just curious, I will be happy wherever they assign us at BCV.

Actually, I think MS is simply re-enforcing to us that they ARE requests. I saw a woman go off on a poor front desk CM at OKW once because the SPECIFIC room number she wanted wasn't available, nor were there any rooms avaiable in that building. Some DVCers apparently felt that ALL requests should be guaranteed, no matter what.

As long as I can get my non-smoking room, anything else is gravy - I seldom request areas or views, and never felt as though I MUST have them.

I think that the front desk CMs are facing more and more guests who expect to get all their requests and are either very vocal or downright nasty about it. IMHO, these boards (and others like them) are raising some people's expectations beyond what is reasonable. I offer the many posts about check in/check out times and "best views" as supporting my view.

When we checked into BWV on 12/1/02, the CM started to explain that the hotel was full and that my requests couldn't all be granted. I stopped him and said that I was sure that whatever room we received would be just fine and that I knew the room assigners did the best job they could. He seemed very relieved. (As it turned out, we had a great room in a super location).

I also think that MS is emphasizing that requests are not guaranteed and that check in is 4 PM due to the problems the front desk CMs are having with some members.

I have to agree and also admit that I am guilty of having my expectations too high from reading this board and others like them.
It was my first visit ever to the World. I read how to shmooze, get upgrades, what rooms, what area, what view, etc. were the best. It seemed like everyone was being liberally spinkled with huge doses of pixie dust, and I was expecting the same. I had myself so worked up about it that I knew if I didn't get everything I would be in for the letdown of the century.

I finally snapped out of it a few weeks before our trip and told myself that whatever room we received would be fine. The second trip, it didn't matter where in the resort we were assigned. We were in Disney! What else could you ask for!
