Reservations for Friends

I had some points I couldn't use, so I made ressies for some friends. Got them four days at BW in March. Anyway, they want to pay something, we'd never discussed price, and that wasn't the issue as much as getting the points used. I've decided that I'm not going to ask for anything, and I'm ok with that, but I know they'll do something nice. That's going to be the fun of it. This feels really good.

I think you've made the right choice. Our friends (who have way too many Wyndham points) often want to give us a weekend away. We take care of their dogs and cats when they are away. Still, we usually feel like this is too much, but they insist the points would just go unused. This makes us feel better, and we believe them. We usually bring back some gift to say thanks.

I guess the main thing is to make sure they understand you are not doing them a favor or giving a hand-out. It will make it much more enjoyable for them. And you.

We did this once with airline pts we couldn't use (we moved and the airline did not serve our city, so I gave it to a student from a town my sister told me about who was trying to raise money to go on a school trip to Washington, DC for a leadership conference). Her dad, it turned out, was an artist, and asked my sister for some pictures of my daughter (only had one back then), and he drew us a collage of her as a Thank-you. It is one of my most prized posessions. I later sent him pictures of all my kids and paid him to do the same for them...
