Reservations for Big River Grille?

I noticed on the wdwinfo page on Big River Grille that it said reservations are recommended, but ADR's are not available. What does this mean, do I need to call the restaurant directly to get a reservation? Also, does anyone have any comments on the food here?

Big River only accepts reservations 24-hours in advance.

We ate dinner here once about five years ago ... it was OK but nothing special. Certainly not good enough to prompt us to eat there again and we've been back to WDW every year since then.

Still, it's always good to try it for yourself and make your own informed decision. I hope you enjoy it if you end up dining there.

My understanding is that you call them yourself within 24 hours of wanting to reserve. We are doing this for our Nov trip.

It's also interesting, because a CM told me that it is not on the dining plan, however, I have had so many disers say that it is. Honestly, I tend to go with what all our friends here say

Definitely- I had a CM tell me yesterday that the only the 9:30 show of Hoop De Doo review could be booked with dining plan, if you booked the 5 or 7pm show you had to pay OOP. I was like okay, I'll call back. And I did and lucked out by being able to book a 5pm show during free dining.

You need to call them direct.

In fact I called tonight.

I made reservations for 2 nights in September, and they do take the Dining Plan. I asked and was informed that they are taking reservations up till the end of the year.

The reservations are different than the usual type of reservations........
They do not guarantee a table for you, if there is a line and you arrive they just move you to the top of the list....
Priority seating, kinda like FastPass!

I'm not impressed with the menu at all at Big River. I've eaten there several times and always find myself struggling to find something. Because it's a Brew Pub, you expect brew pub type food - they have hardly any appetizers at all, and that's usually meal enough when you are sampling beer - to share several appetizers versus eating a giant steak. They need less entrees and more sandwich variety - again, more of a brew pub menu. I've also had issues with the wait staff here - the inside is usually mobbed but there are many tables outside - usually empty. I've been turned away several times from the outside tables simply because they didn't have the staff to serve out there. I even tried to buy a beer inside and sit at one of the patio tables and was told I could not because there were no waiters available! I didn't need a waiter - I was perfectly fine going in and buying my own beer - I just wanted to sit outside and watch my kids play carnival games across the boardwalk! I have not been back again.
