Reservations for 8 and only need 4?

I have reservation at CM for 7:30 on Dec 4th for 8 people. It looks like my brother and his family are not going to make it in time that night. My question is my family of 4 still want to go. Will they let me call and change just the number of people? I already looked and there are no times available to make a new reservation for the 4 of us and then just cancel the one for 8.

this past September I had ressies for a party of 11 at Tusker House for breakfast. My friend and her family had to cancel their trip so that only left it a party of 4 for my family I called and was able to change the party size.

Yes if you call Disney dining they will reduce the number in the party for you.

IF they have a table for a party of 4, they will change the number for you. They will not simply change you down from 8 to 4 because that is a VERY different table size.

I don't know how CM is set up, but many times they put 2 4-tops together for parties of 8, so I see no issue with changing to a party of 4 and "not putting the 2 tables together". I'd call and see. It could free up a reservation for another party of 4.

I just changed two ADRs I made online in that same time period, reducing down from a party of seven to a party of five for two signature restaurants--this Saturday evening and this coming Monday evening. I was not able to modify it myself online--both restaurants came up unavailable--but when I called the agent was able to change it for me.

So it is worth calling.

Just be careful when you try and change. We had booked the Fantasimc Dinner package for 7, we called to change it to 6 before we arrived. The CM said that it was not a problem and that out time would change by 15 minutes, which we were fine with. Once we arrived we just assumed that we still had the Fantasmic package and I asked the server about our show tickets when she brought the check. She looked shocked and said that we did not have the package on our reservation. Thank goodness I had our old reservation number and they were able to confirm that the original reservation for 7 was for the package and they did give us the tickets after speaking to a manager. We cut it close! The server also said that you are supposed to mention the package to the server when you sit down, which we never knew either.
