Reservations are "Here to Stay"...

So I take it that this info is outdated?

From **************

When inquiring about a hotel stay, we confirmed that Disney notes reservation restrictions based on each Magic Key (AKA Annual Pass) type will remain in place for Magic Key Holders staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel. It is important to note, though, that theme park reservations are made on a rolling basis. That means that once one reservation is used, the Magic Key Holder can immediately book another reservation.

Magic Key Holders are not guaranteed a theme park reservation, nor are hotel Guests. That could mean that Guests visiting during busy times of year (such as Christmas) may be staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel, but are unable to make a reservation for the theme parks

Either inaccurate, or there is a bug in my account that lets me use the key with a resort reservation and have access to every day starting at either park…

Oooh did you have to reserve as well? Or it’s automatically allowed?
I’m sending DL chat another question. Let’s see if they can clarify Dream key + resort reservations = ?
Thanks for letting me know your experience.

Link your resort stay with your Disney account. Then “view my stays” or whatever and from the hotel reservation there should be a “make park reservations” or something and if your key is linked with the same Disney account you should be able to use that to make a stay. (It doesn’t specifically say which bucket, but I looked at the key calendar and October was mostly empty, yet doing the reservation via resort showed all but one Saturday if October open.) You’re still limited to the max amount of reservations at one time (dream key in my situation, six max), but it’s FAR more likely now a 7 or 8 day trip will have all days useable with the key since you can dip into the resort bucket.

It’s possible Disney staff aren’t being specifically told there are separate buckets but just advising customers to link your resort stay and then make park reservations.

I’m curious if you book a stay, book a park, and then cancel your stay… would the system be smart enough to cancel your park res, or could that be a loophole that could be exploited? (Please don’t, I don’t want resort buckets being taken away!)

Aah ok. So you are still limited to the 6. But from a different bucket which has more availability.
Yeah I’m still not liking that. I probably will stick to our hoppers then. Since we have a longer stay coming up. If we can only do 6, it kind of messes with a whole lot of plan.
I can’t handle reservation stalking every day. Defeats the purpose of vacationing 😂

I agree… but stalking it ahead of time can help paint a picture somewhat. Of course holidays might be an unknown still, but so far the resort bucket looks incredibly robust and I felt pretty comfortable knowing I could dip into that…

Wide open compared to the others (even single day) being picked over…

Makes sense if you think about spending thousands at an on property resort… Disney wants you to be able to hit the parks. Again, maybe a New Years or Christmas is a whole different story… but otherwise Disney needs to hold probably 2,500 to 3,500 “spots” or something in the resort bucket (at most) and would keep every hotel guest absolutely happy. [That’s nothing when you think about full park capacity]

The reservations for onsite guests are wide open. So, if you have a Magic Key and are staying for 10 days, you can book your first 6 before you arrive and then book the other 4 after you've visited the previous day(s). Of course, it boils down to what is a better overall deal for you.

Thank you so much for the reply. That makes sense but .

We have had to cancel so many trips (Hawaii twice, Disneyland/San Diego once and now probably twice) these past 18 months. The kids are at the stages they are for a such amount of time. Sigh....Our trip planned for mid-November is really needed. We desperately don't want to wait another year, but we can't wear the masks. Just. Can't.

I can try to plan another trip on such short notice, but what can be as magical as six nights at the Grand Californian and Disneyland at Christmas?!
I expect indoor masks to remain at DL thru at least the holidays. If there is no way to figure out the mask issue for your family, you should probably cancel now.

It's really not that impactful at DL with only 2 parks. Get which one you can and hop to the other! Its definitely a nuisance for WDW though.

Thanks everyone.
I think this will work if the busy time is in the beginning of our trip. Unfortunately it’s on the last part of our trip. And I don’t trust the reservation system yet to let go of the busy times for the beginning and gamble on the later days.
Sigh 😔 vacations aren’t supposed to be this complicated
