Reservation vs. Point Rental

:wave2: Hi everyone!

I've been enjoying these boards for a long time but just now got around to registering to join in the conversation. I have a question for you more experienced owners. We originally bought at BCV and quickly added OKW and VWL resale contracts after our first stay at OKW. (It's an addiction now that I attribute to mid-life crisis). Because of two years worth of banked points that came with our VWL contract we will have "extra" points available next year - probably at BCV because that's our larger contract. I should clarify - I don't believe there is such a thing as "extra" points but my not-yet-addicted husband does . My question is for those of you that have rented out points or made reservations and then transferred it to another party. Which way works best with the least amount of hassle. Is it easier to make a reservation for a popular time of year and then advertise it as available or just offer the points for sale and then try and accomodate potential buyers dates? I feel a bit uneasy making a reservation that I know I'm not going to use, but I really don't want to be checking on multiple dates for multiple people only to have them back out. Any thoughts?

The absolute EASIEST thing to do (and the only thing I have done so far) is to transfer them to another member. They pay you, you call MS and transfer points into their account, and you're all done. Then they can do what they want with their points!

I agree with Beth - transferring to another member is a lot easier than fussing around with reservations, checking for availability, mailing out confirmation letters, adding requests later, answering lots of questions for people new to the process and negotiating payment schedules, etc.

Best wishes -

Thanks, Beth, I hadn't even thought of that option. I like easy.
I noted that you have lots of "kids". I've been a Mom to my rotties longer than I've been a Mom to my more normal children. It's quit the house when everyone is at full voice!

I might try it both ways - not intentional - so don't get upset.

I have made reservations based on what my renters have choosen - October - of course my ad was for only Sept, Oct in redweek - no problems.

I also have a studio reservations for Thanksgiving at BWV -made this for me - my brother and his family were going to stay at Sheraton's Vistana resort. now they might not be able too. this one is an exchange through RCI and it would cost me to cancel it.

So I might be at Sheraton's Vistana resort and renting my Thanksgiving BWV studio. Won't know until sooner - are relatives fun?????

spiceycat,
Yes, I agree with your statement on relatives:mad: I GAVE 110 points to my sister for a trip she had to have in two weeks--she cancelled out this morning and paid for a room at HH instead. Can't live with them, can't kill them...pirate: <<sigh>>

Welcome, fellow Minnesotan! I agree, no such thing as EXTRA points!

LOL, spiceycat. See what happens when you try to be nice? Sorry your brother may not be able to go. Hope it works out for them.

We've been lucky, so far. None of our relatives have cancelled out on us - even for the trip right after 9/11 (I know they really wanted too, though. I had to tell my brother to quit watching Fox News as it was beginning to seriously impact his normal good sense).

Since we have to fly from Minnesota, I always make my guests get airline tickets right after I book DVC. Somehow, the prospect of losing at least $100 per ticket (to make a change to a non-refundable ticket) makes them think very hard about changing their minds willy-nilly. (I know sometimes things happen that cannot be controlled).

Best wishes -
