I got more information about the points that I will get if I make it through ROFR, 350 of which will be in reservation status, and I have to use them by August of this year. I'm trying to figure out what I can do with those points, according to the broker, they can only be used for Disney collections, Adventure Collections, or Conceirge collections. Does anyone have any experience using any of those three collections? I've done enough research to know that i won't be using the Adventure Collection, but I don't know enough about the other two collections and I can't seem to find a good resource. I did find a listing on another forum for the conceirge collection, but I wasn't sure if that was recent, as they seem to change the eligible resorts/hotels every year.

Disney Collection includes non dvc locations at WDW and DL that are not connected to a dvc resort.... Mostly mods and deluxes...

Disney collection also includes Disney cruises but they have been booking up far in advance for points.

Conceirge Collection include some upscale hotels - Fairmont in San Francisco, Loews Regency in NYC, Mandarin Oriental in DC, Whitehall Hotel Chicago, Mountain & Ski resorts. Sagamore in NewYork looks like a nice summer spot.

Where are you located?? you may be able to use up some points for weekends...

I live in AL, I didn't see anything really all that close (no closer than Disney that is) to where I live.

If I used it for the Disney Collection, that's basically just the normal resorts, right? Is there somewhere where I could see how many points those types of rooms cost?

I won't have much time to plan all of this if/when I complete this resale process so I'm just trying to figure out as much of this as I can now. I'd sure hate to lose those 350 points.

Here's a link to the 2010 Disney Collection Point charts:

I can't find (except on the member site) point charts for the others, I know that doesn't help you much. The Collection included DL, DLP, DCL,WDW resorts,Tokoyo, Hong Kong.

on the link, just google "the disney collection + point charts" and it will be the first return.

I hope this helps! :)

Will the reservation points expire at the end of August 2011? If so, you need to figure out if the Rule of 4 applies to these reservation points. Read the point charts for the collections you're interested in and figure out if you can even use these points after you pass ROFR and the points get loaded into the system.

I'm 99% certain that once the points are in reservation status then the rule of 4 is no longer applicable. That is because at the time they became reservation points the exchange was made.

What is the rule of 4? What do you mean when you say that at the time they became reservation points the exchange was made?

Points remain just regular points until or if they are employed to be used for a non-dvc reservation, say a cruise. When a member makes a DCL booking, your points are coverted into "reservation points" and cannot be reverted back into just 'normal' points. Reservation points are subject to slightly different rules (like can't be reverted etc)...that process is the exchange from normal point to reservation points.

The Rule of 4:
You cannot book AND travel on The Disney Collection (excluding Disneyland® Resort Hotels in California), Concierge Collection and Adventurer Collection vacations within the last 4 months of your Use Year. However, you can travel in the last 4 months of your Use Year as long as you've booked your stay more than 4 months before the end of your Use Year.
The rule of 4 also prohibits you from banking your regular points in the last 4 months of your use year.

I agree with PP who said that the rule of 4 doesn't apply once the exchange has occurred.

:), I still have 24 days so I think I'm going to go over my quota

So, you guys are saying that because the points are already in reservation status, I might not be subject to the 4 month rule? Gosh, I sure hope not, because there's no way I'll have my points before May (based on the timeframes that you guys have been giving for resales) and that only gives me three months. I'm assuing that I have to take the actual trip before August if they say that I have to use the points before August.

(I think that leaves me with 20 )

Yes, I'm thinking you would not be subject to the rule of 4. Reservation points must be used within their orginal use year, so if the contract is a (say) Sept UY, they'd have to be used by August 31 of this year.

I completely understand not wanting to lose the points, but stay focused on the long-term nature of membership, if you just can't use the points you'll still have years of vacations ahead of you :)

You could rent them too.. due to the cost of POR or Poly per night like 40 points or something outrageous, I am guessing your rental price would be much much lower than the adv. but 3-5$ still is better than wasting them. I have heard others have used them on the cabins at DW too, at a slightly better value.

Oh, you're right, and I'm not going to lose sleep if I can't use those 350 points, but if I can, well, I'm just trying to see what my options are. It'd be great if we could make two trips to Disney this year :), now I just have to convince my husband :), I think my three year old is sold on the idea (she has been asking to go back to Disney ever since we left)

I assume you're meaning is the cabins at Fort Wilderness (FW).
Yes, renting *might* work, but as you say it would be at a very distressed price.

That's great! :laughing::):thumbsup2

I hope it works out so you can make 2 trips!
I'm sure that you would be able to get in somewhere, even if you can't book until May.

I doubt I'd try that, if I can use them I will, we got a great price per point because of the reservation status of the points for this year, so I'm not too worried about it.

I think you will not have a problem using the points! 350 points is a nice chunk of points. If you traveled after July 17 (not that you would have to but it is a lower point structure) you could stay at the Poly for 8 nights for around 348 points! The GF a bit more cabins Ft Wilderness less (my favorite btw with the full kitchen and out door space). As long as there is availability I am with you I would use the points!!!!

Wow, that's great to hear, and I think I've sold my husband on the idea :)

I guess I'll check with the broker to see if they know if these points would be subject to the 4 month rule. In the contract it says that they have to be used by August, I would like to think that if reservations had to be made 4 months in advance they wouldn't even have been listing these points as part of the deal since they would be worthless, but I guess you never know.

No, Reservation Points are not affected by the rule of 4 since they are already committed to reservation status (the points have already been used for a non-DVC reservation).

You should not have any problem using them once you have closed on the contract as long as there is something available for dates you'd want to travel.

Enjoy! :)
