I was just perusing the resales and someone has liste 1370pts in "reservation status" I hadn't heard this term before is that the same as holding acct?

Sort of...

Reservation Status mean that those points were used to reserve a stay in the Disney Collection or Buena Vista Trading, (and maybe a cruise?) and the reservation was canceled. Those points can not be used at a DVC resort, and must be used for stays at one of the regular Disney resorts (WDW, DL, DL Paris, etc) or perhaps a cruise. I don't know if they can be banked, I would assume, no.

They cannot be banked and will expire at the end of the current Use Year.

As Chuck stated, they can only be used for non-DVC options- Disney Collection (including DCL), Concierge Collection, Adventurer Collection. They cannot be used for World Passport exchanges.

Unlike DVC points, Reservation Points may be used during the last 60 days of your Use Year to reserve the non-DVC options.

With the current exception of DL which came about a year or so ago. If one is too near the end of the use year to make it feasible to purchase then use the reservations points, arrange the contract in such a way that the buyer uses the reservation points prior to closing and have the current member reserve what you want. Remember DVC will cancel any and all pending reservations when you close on a resale.

:confused3 This confused me. How can the buyer use the reservation points to make a reservation for you, if they lose the pending reservation when you close?

In this case you would need to make the trip prior to closing and then close afterwards if timing were an issue. You can generally get an owner on board with that idea with a large enough upfront payment, enough that they'd think they're whole if the deal breaks down afterwards. The trick as a buyer is to find someone willing to work with you and have just he right size up front payment as to make both parties OK if the deal falls through after the trip but before closing.
