Reservation question???

I'm sure there is a thread on this topic but here is my question. Any insights would be appreciated.

We are planning our trip to the world July 10 and our home resort is Animal Kingdom Kinadi (sp?). When our 11 month window opens we are going to make our reservations for that resort. My question is at the 7 month window, could I call and see if another resort is available for the time I wanted and if so, could I cancel my animal kingdom reservation? Or do they frown upon this??

Lots and lots of members do exactly that - book their home resort and then try to switch when the 7 month window opens. As long as there is availability, you can cancel the AKV reservation and use the points for the new reservation.

MS will not have any problem with you making the attempt (hopefully a successful one). It's a very common thing for members to do.

Another thing that is done, is if the resort you want at the 7month window is not available, you can be put on waitlist. If the waitlist comes through, they will cancel you AK and book where you want. MS understands this happens all the time and there is no problem with doing it

One problem with the waitlist, though. If you use fewer points for your waitlisted stay, you could wind up with points that you can't use before the end of your UY, either because you don't have a trip planned or you borrowed points for the stay or you are past your banking deadline.
