Just some pondering on my part but am I right to assume that most people book their home resort at the 11 month mark then if they were wanting a different resort, call at the 7 month mark to see what is available then cancel the old reservation & book a new one?

Does that make sense? Is that the way it generally works?

A lot of people do this. That way they are at least assured of a room for their dates.

If you are trying this at a busy time of year, it will be better if you have enough points to book the new one before you cancel the original reservation. There have been a few reports where a member ended up with no reservation at all after trying to switch. The original reservation went to someone on the waiting list as soon as it was cancelled and then when MS tried to book the new reservation (which had been available minutes earlier) it was no longer available because someone else grabbed it in the meantime.

And then there are some of us who enjoy our home resort, so we keep the 11 month reservation all the way to the completion of the vacation.
