Reservation Penalty Question

Hi All!

Thanks in advance for your help with this question.

We have an upcoming trip next week, and have about 4 ADRs at various places. When we made the reservations at the beginning of the reservation window, we thought we would have 6 travelling in total, so all reservations were made for 6.

Unfortunately one of our party won't be joining us, and it just now dawned on us that we will have one extra for all ADRs. So...recommendations on whether:

1. We should call dining and change the ADR from 6 to 5 (am slightly worried that they will have to cancel the 6 in order to redo to 5, and possibly losing the table in the process).

2. Tell the host / hostess what has happened, and either pay the $10 penalty for the missing person or not, depending on how the restaurant handles things.

Please note, I'm not trying to game the system or gain any sort of undeserved favor, I just don't want to lose my ADRs right before the vacation.

Thanks again,

Scott

As long as at least one person shows up for the reservation you will not be charged a penalty for anyone. It says so in the terms and conditions on the dining site.

I would leave your reservations as they are and just check I with five. I wouldn't want to risk losing any of my ADRs...either through lack of availability or CM error.

Just call and ask the CM if they're able to change the number in your party from 6 to 5. They won't cancel your reservation unless you tell them to.

This could open up a table for somebody who needs it.

Just don't cancel unless you're absolutely sure the sixth person can't go; it could be very difficult to get the sixth seat back.

It won't open up a table as they will still need a g-top for their group. There are no tables for five. If they were going down to four I would agree with you, but since they are going to five I still say let the reservations stand.
