Reservation Modification Question

I thought I was modifying my current free dining reservation to get 40% off...but the CM said she had to cancel my old ressie and rebook a new reservation with a one day deposit. My old ressie was with free dining, and my new one is room only. Is this what happened with everyone else? I thought my original deposit of $200 could be applied instead of what ended up happening (getting the $200 credited back to my cc and the one-day deposit being charged with a new reservation number and everything)!!

Of course I hung up without specifying non-smoking. Are all the hotels smoke-free?

Also, I have Magical Express attached to the old reservation which was cancelled. The CM didn't mention anything. Is Magical Express available only for packages...and not room only rates?

Room only and packages can't be switched - they have to be rebooked, from what I understand. And they will credit your original deposit and you have to pay a new deposit, they don't transfer the funds.

All Disney resorts are non-smoking.

ME can be used by anyone staying @ Disney. Your previous reservation would be cancelled, so I believe you will have to add it to your new reservation.

I had the package with free dining and switched to a room discount but still had tickets included, and had none of these problems. Do you not need tickets now either?

That's because you changed from one type of package to another type of package. Once you add tickets, it's a package, and packages can be modified without being re-booked. But if you go from room only (no tickets) to package, or vice versa, you need to cancel and re-book.

The difference is a room only res is not bought through WDTC.
WDTC sells the travel packages.
Due to this, funds are not interchangeable between the two.

We wanted to change our free dining package to room only too...we would have lost our trip insurance premium that we paid because trip insurance can't be used for room only reservations...

So, we added tickets to the room-only discount and now have a "Fall/Winter Offer" package! We did have to switch resorts too...CSR wasn't available for our room/bed type requests. We are now at CBR.
