Hello all. I know this has probably been addressed here before, but I appreciate any help I can get, as myself and DW are planning our first trip to Fort Wilderness this year and we are total rookies with our new-to-us travel trailer.

I had a quick question regarding reservations at the Fort. This is my first time camping there, and I am trying to get a site for our travel trailer (i.e. full hook up, preferred or premium).

I am trying to reserve the dates of February 25 -27 for a weekend trip (we live three hours away in Jacksonville, Florida). The reservation system will not let us reserve a site for just that weekend, and shows “no availability” or just “tent/popup site available.” However, I can reserve a site from February 25 – March 2 in the system for any level site I want. It is strange.

I guess my question is can I go ahead and reserve the site for all of those days, including the days I don’t need, and then call on the phone next week and cancel the extra days without penalty? I wasn’t sure what the cancellation policy was for the campground, but it seems like there is no way to get the dates you need on the online system without doing this…

Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions? Thanks for the help!

Yes you can reserve those extra days, then cancel them. Instead of making reservations on line, I recommend calling. Ask to see if there are any discounts available, i.e. Florida Residence, Passholder, etc. You can cancel anytime up to 5 days before check in without losing your deposit. Enjoy your trip, and be sure to take lots of pictures and give us a full Trip Report!

First of all :welcome:

What you are experiencing seems to be normal these days, especially for weekend bookings coming up in the following six months. Disney seems to try and keep spots open for people wanting longer stays. More money for the mouse. As long as you are booking campsite only and not a package you can cancel anytime up to 5 days before your check-in date without penalty. Even if you have to cancel inside the five days you can move your reservation out a month or so and then call back the next day and cancel that reservation without penalty I regularly have to over-book my weekend stays. I just call the next day and drop the extra days.

Thaks for the info guys! I love this board...you guys know all of the "tricks of the trade" when navigating Disney! Thanks again!

ETA...I called and they booked 2/25 - 2/27 with no problem! Thanks!
