Hi everyone, I am planning on a buying used DVC points soon. I understand most of the rules, but need a little help with reservation details.

- I think this is obvious, but is the "point cost" of the reservation limited to the number of points available on the reserved date?

- If I buy at BWV & SSR, can I transfer points to BWV and make an 11 month reservation at BWV? (or are transferred points limited to 7 months?)

Thanks for the help,
Jim

Not being an owner yet, I'm pretty positive that's a no. If you have BWV and SSR points, and you transfer SSR points, they are still SSR points. I don't think they will allow you to use them at the 11 month mark. You will have to wait for the 7 month to combine them for one reservation.

Everything is based on the points that are available for the travel dates. Any trip can be "paid" for with banked points from the UY prior to travel, points for the UY of travel, and borrowed points from the UY following travel.

So, if you want to travel in July 2012, and have a June UY, that trip would take place in the June 2012 UY. You could use banked 2011 points, 2012 UY points, and borrowed 2013 UY points.

You can always call 11 months in advance of the trip for your home resort and 7 months in advance for the others.

In terms of points, if you own both SSR and BWV points, you can only use the SSR points at SSR at the 11 month window and BWV points at BWV at the 11 month window. They can only be combined at the 7 month mark.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The information here at disboards is changing my plans. I originally wanted to buy SSR to get lower maintenance cost and longer contract (vs BWV). My wife and I like to stay on the Boardwalk the week after Xmas. After reading some of the post here, that seems difficult to do without an 11 month reservation window.

Still thinking this over...

Also keep in mind that you can only transfer points from the current use year. If you bank or borrow your points from one contract, they can no longer be transferred.

The week after Christmas is the busiest week of the year for the parks and arguably, the most difficult time of the year to get a DVC reservation for the smaller WDW DVC resorts at 7 months. The smaller WDW DVC resorts include VWL, BCV & BWV. (The little space remaining at BLT will sell out for that week about an hour or so after the 7 month window opens). Don't be fooled by reports that some got those resorts for that week at 7 months. Those will be the exceptions, not the rule and most of them will involve waitlists.

If you have your heart set on staying at the BWV for that week, especially if you want a studio or anything in standard or Boardwalk view category, you need to own BWV.

Good luck with your decision.
