We just booked at DLH for the first week of May and will be celebrating our 10th weding aniversary and our son's 7th birthday. Do I call just a couplr of days before to let them know about the birthday? That is more important then the aniversary , but if I could get them to do something special for that too it would be great. The boys and I will get there on the Monday then my Husband will meet us Tuesday night, so a surprise for him would be so great even if I need to pay extra for an aniversary surprise
Do I call the hotel direct or the same number for the reservations for our character meals?
Thanks in advance .....................any advice would be great after going to DL all my life this is our first time in a Disney Hotel and I think I am even more excited then the kids are!!!! I hope it is as magical as many of you have said! :mickeyjum

I would definitely call the hotel directly. We have stayed at Paradise Pier twice for our daughter's birthday. The first time she got a couple of balloons and an autographed picture of Minnie. The second time she got a huge bunch of balloons, goodie bags for her and her brother (these had stickers, coloring books and some candy), and an autographed picture of Minnie and Mickey. Then when we got up to the room, there were chocolates on the pillows and a plate of four huge, Mickey shaped rice krispy treats. Talk about the royal treatment. I think maybe we were the happy victims of a bored cm, dusted with pixie dust! But the bottom line is that if I hadn't called them both times, they wouldn't have known about this. I would be more apt to tell them about just one occasion. You can always surprise your husband with something you do yourself since you arrive early. Also, the hotel can arrange for gift baskets you pay for with a variety of options in them. You can use the same number you use for your dining, they have a menu of options that will direct you to the proper place. And last, if you are planning on dining at Goofy's or one of the other character meals for your son's birthday, you can purchase a birthday bucket for him. I think they are $20 and have some fun stuff in them. My daughter lover hers. Oh, and there is a birthday party at the Plaza Inn each day, where each guest gets to decorate their own little cake. Mickey and Minnie make an appearance at the end. Its a lot of fun and $10 per person which includes the cake and punch. You can make reservations for that at Disney Dining as well.

How soon before my trip should I call? Your experince sounds great thanks for the discription!
