Has anyone had their room type upgraded by Aulani without them asking prior to arrival?

I just got an email about checking in ahead of time and noticed it said it was for an ocean view. The confirmation number is correct, but we booked a island garden view.

I'm confused and it's too late to call, but plan to get ahold of them in the morning to find out about the pricing. Like my other half said, if it's the same price, we aren't going to complain! But I do wonder if it's just an error on their end.

Yes, we had an island garden view booked and were upgraded to partial ocean view. There was no increase in price, it was complimentary. It usually has to do with room availablility. Congrats on your pixie dust!

This happened to us too, the first time we went and there was no up-charge so dont worry about that. We had a split stay with some of our time booked into a standard view hotel room and we were upgraded without notification to a partial ocean view. I asked about it afterwards and it came down to simply having longer stays occupying the standard view rooms and empty partial ocean views when we arrived. Lucky you!

If they made the change I am confident they will not charge you more than you booked. This happened to my sister. She reserved a 1 br island view and was put in a 2 br ocean view. She had an AMAZING view. 12th floor, very close to the end of the hotel towards the ocean. It was phenomenal. One of the upsides of booking cash vs DVC is the possibility of an upgrade. Congratulations on your magic! Enjoy!!

Just 4 days! I got the email yesterday, we arrive on Sunday.

Room allocations typically take place a few days before arrival so it would show up right before or at check-in.
