I've been planning our family's first trip to WDW in October (we're DLR vets, but rookies when it comes to WDW planning). This is a question probably asked many times but I can't seem to find anything via search. If we book a package, then at 60 days out schedule our FP+, what happens to our FP+ reservations if we make a change to our reservation. The reservation change would not be to the dates of our stay, but let's say we book a package, then later in this summer RO discounts come out for the fall...could we change our reservation to include RO discounts but not affect our FP+? Would that mean we would have to cancel our existing package reservation and then purchase a RO with new tickets separate? Thanks.

Short answer: If you flat-out cancel a package that includes the tickets used to book your FP+s, you will lose your selections. Switching the package/applying a discount but keeping the same tickets/reservation number, your FP+ selections are not affected.

Long answer:

If you change from a package that includes tickets, and then change to only a room or only a room and dining (meaning you are not purchasing your tickets as part of your package), then yes, you will lose your FP+s. Those are tied to your tickets.

RO discounts can usually be applied to the room portion of a package, so as long as you were keeping the tickets on your package, you *should* be good to go. I could be mistaken, but I think that most discounts come out well before the 60-day mark, so you'll likely be fine.
