Reservation cancelling/changing Q

What is the prodecudure, rules, penalties, timeframes if you cancel or change a points reservation at a DVC prop?

Assuming that the reservation is on points, then if you cancel 31 or more days before, then there is no penalty and the points go back into your account. However, dependign upon how close you are to the end of your UY, it may be too late to bank the points.

If you cancel 30 days or less before the start of the vacation, then the points go into a holding account. The points in a holding account can only be used within 60 days of the proposed new trip and they will be lost at the end of your UY.

And if you cancel on your check-in day (or you check out early, before the end of your stay) all points used for the reservation are forfeited.

If you change a reservation to something that uses fewer points, you may be too late to bank the left over points or use them for something else before they expire. And you can't unborrow them if you borrowed them.

If you have a reservation for a non-DVC resort, if you cancel it, you can't use the points that result for a DVC resort. These have become reservation points and you can only use them outside of DVC.
