reservation cancelation

I have a set of family reservations I am going to most likely have to cancel. They are for december with banked 2011 points and 2012 points. Checkin is the 16 th so i guess i good get the 2012 points back but i'm past the bank date for a feb UY. If I cancel before the 16th i guess i could get the points back and rent them but my use year is feb. Should I just try to rent the reservations, cancel the reservation on rent the points for a reservation before feb 13 or just deal with it suck it up and loose the points. Not sure if there is another option? Just not sure if there is a pro or con to the first 2 options?

I would't lose the points. You could ask for the secret "once in a lifetime" exception for the 2012 points but you will lose the 2011. I would rent the reservation (is it more than one?).
