So about a month and a half after getting back from our trip in September we found out we were expecting a "little souvenir"! One problem - we booked the bounce back, and the baby will only be a few weeks old when we were supposed to go, so we figured we would cancel. Talked about it, and thought about maybe rescheduling, but since we aren't 100% sure what lies ahead, we decided cancelling was best for now. We only put down the $200 deposit, and got trip insurance so I figured it wouldn't be an issue.
I called to cancel, and was told that I wouldn't get my deposit back - that trip insurance was included in the cost of the trip and non-refundable and because that was actually more than my deposit they would not give that money back to us (might I mention the woman was NOT overly helpful, and seemed to have a chip on her shoulder). I thought that trip insurance was to cover you in case something happened and you couldn't go - she said that I could try to put a claim in through the insurance, but didn't think that it would get approved. So I left my reservation as is, and I am now contemplating moving the trip from September to May 2011 rather than lose $200 - she said that it was transferrable.
Has anyone ever run into an issue like this? And if I do move to May, any idea when they release the dates of the Star Wars weekends or other special events? I would hate to book it and wind up having to move it a second time...argh...so frustrating for something I thought would be easy!

As far as I know, Disney Trip Insurance is not refundable (the cost of the insurance) once the deposit for said trip is received.

As far as what is covered - I would assume that a newborn baby is not covered. But get your documents out and read the fine print. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will be along.

In your case, I would just reschedule. And if you have to reschedule again, so what. I once rescheduled a trip SIX times because we could not pay for it in full in cash. Vacation is so much better when it's paid already.

Just wanted to say Congrats on your "little souvenir." We found out on our Sept trip. :goodvibes

That's strange. If you hadn't booked insurance, you'd be able to get your $200 back. I've done it before. I think it's 45 days cancellation before you start being penalized.

I know (or at least I think) that you won't get the trip insurance money back, but you should at least get your $200 deposit.
We never book trip insurance, so I'm not an expert on it, but hopefully someone else will be able to come along with more info for you.
