Hi

We have bought some points from a DVC member for use this April, due to illness we now have to reschedule them to Oct. The points have to be used by Jan 2012. We need to reschedule/change soon (within the 30 days), so does anyone know what happens to them?

We have been told that if we cancel then the points will go into a holding account and been used on a new ressie within 60 days of arrival.

Plus, once moved to October could we ask him sell them for us?

Just wondered what was possible as we are running out of time.
Thanks in advance for replies.

Well what is to be done in your situation is between you and the owner. But yes, that is the rule - cancellations less than 30 days out cause the points to become holding points and they are then much more restricted in their use. That is why many owners don't allow cancellations or refunds at all; I think you're fortunate if the owner is willing or able to work with your rescheduling at all.

If you wanted to rebook for October, the owner would not be able to book that reservation until August sometime and it is possible that there will be no availability by that time.

They can only be booked 60 days in advance. So right now they could be reserved for a check-in between now and around May 25. You could ask if he wants to try to find another buyer with those dates but most likely he will not be able to get the same price as you paid.

The rule is that you have to cancel more than 31 days out to avoid holding pionts. If you are already within that timeframe, and you cancel, the owner will not be able to re-book your October trip for you until 60 days prior to your check in date.

And, October is a busy time so there will be no guarantee there will be availability for you at that time.

As far as the owner trying to rent out the reservation for you, that would be completely up to him. Hopefully, you had discussed this prior to renting as to the cancellation policy, etc. as this is something each owner handles differently.

I think you have actually already run out of time. Unless you are arriving April 26 or later, you are already within the holding period.
