Reschedule vs. Cancel of ADR

. . . . . . If we think it is unlikely I can just call at noon and that gives 4 hours for some lucky person to snatch up the ADR.
If you have the MyDEx app, you can normally modify the reservation straight from there and not run the risk of encountering an overzealous CSR on the phone. (Same-day cancels typically require a call, but not modifications.)

I actually looked into that but my husband has a legume (peanut) allergy. We have successfully eaten at 'Ohana in the past without issues but I worry about more confusion with a food delivery. We do not want to start our trip with a trip to the ER.

Thanks to everyone for the pertinent information. I will keep looking and hoping for a later time and if not then carefully watch the clock. I figure noon is my latest cut off for knowing if we will make it or not. If we think it is unlikely I can just call at noon and that gives 4 hours for some lucky person to snatch up the ADR. I don't think it will take that long for it to disappear.

Yes, if you find you can't make it, modify on your phone, don't call. Matter of fact, Day before you are due to go down, check on the phone and I bet odds are good that you can move it to an hour or so later as it is. Folks drop and change their plans all the time, especially as things get closer to the day. It gets pretty easy to grab reservations. But, if you find you must alter your plans, don't call the ADR line, use your app to do it. There will be something in the next 6 months you can move it to, which you can in turn cancel.

OP, you could also try the touring plans reservation finder if you want to move the ADR to a later time, just to be safe. They do the looking for you and will notify you by text or email if your desired time becomes available. You do have to be very quick to jump on it if you get a notification, as others are probably looking for the same thing, but I have had a great deal of success using it to get scarce ADRs. And it keeps you from having to constantly stalk the dining reservation site in hopes of finding something.
