Attention to all wanting a resale. There is a package on ebay this morning. Purchased in 1993, so I would assume it is OKW points. Does not say how many points but the asking bid price is $26000. It does mention the fact it is less than $72 a point!!

A friend purchased 350 Boardwalk points advertised on ebay last week for $62 a point.

To owners wanting to sell, this is the best way to sell with out the 15% comission wanted by other resalers.

As noted further below, I was able to find out via email the contract is for 190 oKW and 190 BWV points. Did not provide info on current avail point status. That is $68.42 a point. Seems pretty high unless all 390 points from August 2000 are available.

Pretty funny. We tried buying that same resale at the Boardwalk that your friend got. Luckily we found one for 320 points with Century21!

This internet makes the world pretty small doesn't it doubletroublemom. Sure am glad you found one too. What did you have to pay?

We ended up paying $61/point for 320 points plus 95 that will carry-over. We were actually the ones who offered $62/point (and were thinking of going hire). Luckily for your friend, the seller was a very honest guy who felt since your friend offered first and went up from his original offer, he would give it to him. I'm a believer that everything usually works out for the best! :)

What were points selling for in 1993, like $50? We got our OKW resale at $52/pt. Sounds like the sellers are making a killing and the buyer doesn't have the protection or convenience of going through a professional reseller. Sounds like they are pocketing the commission savings but not passing any of those savings along to you. Just a thought!

Cheers :)

Thanks for the info doubletroublemom. Ebay seems to be pretty effective way to sell your points. Just $3.30 listing fee! I don't work for them either.

Hope you enjoy OKW. We sure have, it is a fabulous resort, the very best on property--

When did you buy?

I have been rejected 5 times and have been offering $59 or $60!

I looked at the E-Bay post mentioned and it really doesn't say anything. There's a lot to consider in resales. This ad doesn't even say how many points are for sale. It's an August use year, but no mention on if any points are banked or borrowed which can greatly affect the price. Also no mention on closing costs which can add a lot if the buyer pays. They mention maintenance fees of 1200-1500/year which might represent the 1993 costs and 2001 costs which would then indicate about 450 points, assuming OKW points, but they should say this. I would be very leary about paying this kind of money based on the information they supplied.

I think if you know the right questions to ask a good deal is possible. You can ask the seller questions, e.g. how many pts are available, banked, etc. This can be done prior to placing a bid. I would also consider using the Timshare Closing Service which could hold the money in escrow until the buyer is sure there is a clean title. There is more to their service such as recording the deed etc. Keep in mind these are legal documents and you want to make sure you get what you pay for. Good luck!!

Ebay has no way of protecting the buyer on these things. I know, because I have been taken for about$1100 in two transactions on that site. If this seller is already not supplying much information it would be a warning sign to me. This is a big amount to lose, if the person turns out to be fraudulant. Maybe the 15% saved would not be a good deal if you lost the whole thing. Disney would still have to approve the sale etc. I guess I would look at this as too risky.

Actually, if you use services of one of the two title companies in Orlando and have them hold all of the funds until a certified closing can be established with clear title to the deed, there should be no problems. I would certainly want to know what you were buying...

1. Number of points
2. Use year
3. Banked Points
4. Borrowed points.
5. Status of the current and past maintainence fees. Are they up to date. Will the buyer have to reimburse the seller for the current year's maintainence fees.
6. Who will pay closing costs.

As long as there is a complete understanding between the parties and a title company is used for the closing, there should be no problems.

I've been emailing the lister from the Ebay points and it breaks down to 190 points each at OKW and BWV. Use year for both is August. (380 pts total) She is only interested in selling them as a block.

While I'm always intrigued by the ebay discussions on this board...

I sure hope that anyone who points out, draws attention to, or links to any sales on ebay or elsewhere doesn't have a vested interest in the sale, or worse yet, is not the seller himself. That would be using this board to sell points, which is against the use of this board.

reneesam: If your insinuation is that I'm somehow connected to the sale, you are flat out wrong.

Many people have been discussing this posting in a few different threads. Rather than simply speculating about the situation or possible evil intentions of the seller I merely contacted the seller directly and then offered the information to the folks who seemed interested.

I also am in no way connected to this person. Just providing the info for any one who may be looking to purchase. It seems kind of high, but I hope they get it because maybe my the value of points will go up too>

Jon-
Whoa....first of all, I'm not directing this at anyone specifically. Besides, from your post, you don't sound like a seller...It sounds like you were only interested in getting some info on a resale. I, myself, bought a resale from a broker I learned about on this board. I was only trying to say that the discussion of any SPECIFIC resale properties, or the link to any of those sales, is against the rules of this board and the rent/trade board because it is free advertising via this site. If the property is mentioned only as a stimulus for discussion, it's fine, although the seller will likely still get some inquiries generated from posts like this.
:)

I also checked the status of this sale. As others have pointed out (and from the info I received directly from the seller) it is 190 points at OKW and 190 points at BWV. As the ad stated it is an August use year. From the email that I received, all the points from 2000 have been used and 46 points borrowed from 2001 and used.

I've been searching for a resale recently and it seems to me that there are much better deals out there, although it always depends on what you are looking for. I am personally looking for fewer points and all at OKW so it doesn't fit my needs. It might be exactly the mix that someone else is seeking.

The nice thing for some is that it provides an "in" to BWV, and enough points to get pretty creative with vacations. As for us, as a family of 3, it is a bit spendy and (for us...in case Rich is out there...) at the wrong resorts! ;)

Sorry, Renee', if I mistook your post!

Jon

If all points from the current use year are used and even some borrowed this is way overpriced. Better make your offer a whole lot less than $26000.

Don't forget Disney still has a say in the pricing being paid for resales. I heard they are not accepting less than $ 58 a point.
