resale market vs. through DVC

I see where you refer to a special offer at 83.30 per point, I was just on the vacation club site and did not see it. Did I miss simething?? I would love to get in at 83.30 and not 98 per point. Thanks
It's a 15% off special that DVC is running for current members and "friends and family" of members.

Hi
We are at disney now and decided to stop in and listen to the presentation. We mentioned we knew some people in DVC but didnt have names with us. We were offered $8 per point off but not the 15%.
Are we too late now to get a referral? If so, is there any other way to get the discount?
Thanks
Rob

We bought resale a few years ago as we didn't want SSR. We paid less than SSR and we got what we wanted and are more than happy with our choice. We thought about adding on but our home (BCV) seemed to sell as fast as they were listed. When we became aware of the SSR special pricing we thought it may be a good time to do an add-on. This special must be selling a lot of points for DVC but has to be hurting anyone needing to sell their DVC contract. We now have a contract awaiting ROFR that we wouldn't have done now, but this seemed like a limited opportunity (who knows how "limited" it's going to be-has the bubble burst?) and we decided to take advantage of sellers having to "match" the DVC offer if they didn't want to wait out the special.

I think Tom from The Timeshare Store put a good light on what the situation seems to be. I think when DVC eliminates the special and/or when the available resales get snapped up the prices will obviously go back up. This is supply and demand and it now seems to be a buyers market. If you have the money I think now is an excellent time to buy DVC, either via DVC direct or by resale if you want a particular home. I estimate it cost us an extra $1000 to go resale vs. direct but we got what we wanted. I know we are giving up 12 years but if we couldn't stay where we wanted then we wouldn't want to go to WDW.

It seems SSR is the best value with lowest cost and ease of financing if needed, but for some of us resales are the only way to get what we want. Either way DVC has tempted many on the fence to jump over to the DVC side.

Hey Rob,

No it isn't too late. Just call give them the referral info you mentioned while on the tour and then ask about the 15% friends and family deal.

I sent you a PM about referral (if you don't already have one).

Let us know if you decide to join!
