Hi All
New to the disboards but been lurking for a LONG time. Learned much from everyone here.
We are interested in a contract thru the Timeshare Store. Seems there are some good experiences and maybe not so good on the boards.
My question is how does everyone feel comfortable making such a huge financical transaction thru emails, faxes and by phone? I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance that everything is on the up and up and to calm my fears:scared: .
Thanks.

Most resale companies, including the Timeshare Store are reputable, and are state licensed, just like other real estate agents.

There can be a bad apple here and there, but in general any well known resale company should be fine.

Don;t set your expectation to high that it will be a speedy transaction, though. It takes time to clear Disney's Right of First Refusal and for the closing company to prepare the closing documents, then both the seller and purchaser have to sign everything. Almost like buying a regular house.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy resale from one of the companies mentioned on these boards. There are some nuances that are unique to Disney in the process so I don't think I would go with someone not familiar with it. There have been some issues with many of them but even then, the feedback isn't consistently bad and cause for alarm. If one of these guys has a contract that interests you, go for it. If it bothers you to do it all from a distance for a big purchase, look for a couple smaller ones and start small.

We used GMAC and I would use them again in a heartbeat. Absolutely no problems. We close in 2 weeks - it was 6 weeks from start to finish. I may be lucky here. Jump on in, the water is fine!!;)

As long as you go with a reputable company, and have lots of patience, you should be fine. Faxes and phones work very well, and you can send your checks by registered mail, and track where they are at all times. I went with DVC By Resale and have been pleased with their service. I passed ROFR March 27, and am waiting for estopple, and then closing. If you decide to " jump in," join Susan (Laxmom) and me, and the rest of the group, on the "Waiting for ROFR support group" thread.

TSS has been great to deal with we are scheduled to settle today on our purchase 220 pts @ SSR. The process does take some time but its worth the wait.

Go for it, good luck!

We bought our SSR resale (150 pts) through the Timeshare Store, we were very pleased with the service, the wait was a bit trying, but the process was very good, and we would recommend them to anyone!

Good luck!

We have done one resale through DVC and one through the Timeshare Store and I thought the transaction through Timeshare Store was much easier. It took a bit of time to close but the paperwork and transactions themselves were easier.

If DH had not make me swear on my life that I would not do another add-on, I would happily use Timeshare Store again.

DVC doesn't handle resales :confused3

They only sell new contracts & add-ons, there shouldn't be any hassle at all, no ROFR, no closing delay.

The original post expresses some concern about entering into a large financial arrangement via email, phone, etc. I assume there are some concerns about the movement and safety of your money. Like all real estate transactions, all money is held and distributed by a third party closing company through an escrow account. Closing companies are heavily regulated and I wouldn't have any concerns. If you are dealing with TSS, the closing company they use is Timeshare Closing Services, Inc.
