Hi.....anybody know if any of the DVC resale brokers take credit cards? We expect to be in the resale market soon and figure if we can use our Delta AmEx we'd also earn a free plane ticket in the process. We'd also be interested if a broker took Visa though (different perks, but still perks.)

Thanks for the info!

I know I've done deposits with credit cards for other timeshares but not the entire amount. I know people who have bought Marriott from the developer or resale (direct from Marriott) who were able to get special permission to use their Marriott card for the entire purchase. They did have to ask and have someone check with a supervisor to get the permission if memory serves. Remember there are some pretty hefty fees for using credits cards. Fees as much as 2-4% is what I've been told with AmEx being the higher amount which is why a lot of places don't take it when they do MC/VISA. That's as much as half the commission on a DVC resale. My guess is the only way they'd do it routinely would be if the seller agreed to cover the fees. In that situation, the buyer could have just gotten a better deal by that amount.

If you buy direct from DVC, they will probably allow the use of a credit card though I don't know about AmEx. I'm sure someone on the board will know as I know I've seen it discussed. You might want to do a search with the words credit card.

DVC will accept credit cards for a purchase. I have used AmEx and Visa to cover an add-on.

DVC will accept full or partial payment via credit card. We paid for our DVC point with our AMEX.

If a vendor accepts Visa/MC/Discover/AMEX, they are contractually obligated to accept it for any/all purchases. They will endanger losing their account if they do not accept it. This does not mean people do not try to avoid accepting it. If they do, notify the credit card agency.

I paid the full amount for our BCV with MC and VISA they do not take Discover. Ken.

We paid for our initial BWV purchase entirely with AMEX. We also
paid for an add on using Amex.

DVC will accept AmEx only for a purchase, not for annual dues. They will accept Visa or MC for annual dues.
A vendor can set certain requirements on cc charges.

When we got our add-on from the Timeshare Store, we could not use a credit card for the purchase.

If you want to see fear, negotiate a great deal on a car then pull out the credit card at the end to pay for it. They will look like they have hyperthyroidism with their eyes bugging out.

I knew others would know the specifics for what DVC would and would not do with a CC. I do know that buying from Marriott, you need special permission to use a CC, even the Marriott CC. I would have no idea of the rules and laws concerning selective acceptance.

I'm not sure about using your credit card but you can always use a cash advance check to put money into your checking account and then pay for the resale out of your checking account. You may even qualify for special financing from your credit card company. You should note though that some banks put a hold on the funds for up to five business days. This is what I did for my recent resale. 6.99% interest until the balance is paid off. Also, this interest would NOT qualify for home morgage deduction on your tax return.

We had to send a check for our OKW resale deposit and wired the balance at closing.

When we purchased a new truck this summer, the dealer would only take a max of a$500 deposit on my credit card.

We've purchased two DVC resales but could not use our credit card for the transactions. You CAN charge your DVC dues if you pay them on a yearly basis. ;)
