I know this has probably been asked and answered before, but for you DVC Gurus here is a question:

If I have a June UY and want to purchase a resale contract, do I have to purchase one with the same UY?

If you can purchase a different use year, what are the pros and cons of having different contracts with different UYs?

No, you do not have to purchase the same use year.

We have stuck with our October use year as it makes all of the accounting much easier. We have the same dates for all contracts. When you have multiple use years you have to keep track of which points are from which use years, when they expire, etc. I am sure it can be done but I have always thought it was more hassle than it was worth. If I was going to buy a contract at another DVC resort and use it exclusively there then it wouldn't be as big of a deal, but combining points from different use year contracts can get sticky.

no.

pros - if you have a contract you typically use for summer trips, but want to start taking regular trips to stay in april in addition to the summer trip (for example), you can get a contract with a UY that starts prior to your planned april trips with a feb or march UY (so if you cancel your april trip, you won't risk being past your banking window as you might be with your june contract.)

cons - you cannot combine pts at the 7 month window to book a single night (or at the 11 month window if both contracts are for the same home resort) without using up your annual transfer for both contracts. having 2 banking windows and expiration dates to deal with can be a hassle.
