How important is getting the same use year on his new contract?

Are there any difficulties in booking points from different use years simultaneously?

If he has different UYs, then they will each have a different membership number even though they are at the same resort. The points are kept separate from each other. You cannot book one reservation using points from both memberships unless you transfer points from one to the other first.

The website has made it easier to keep track of points and banking deadlines. So, having two different UYs is not as difficult as it once was. But if his goal is to be able to book larger villas on a regular basis, it would be a good idea to stick with the same UY for his add-on contract.

If the UYs are the same, but the owner has two resorts, then at the 7 month mark the points can be booked for a single night or single reservation. If he wants the same resort he would need the same UY to book one reservation using the points from both deeds without a transfer. Transferred points only show up on the system if they are the same UY. Otherwise you have to MS to book them and there is no way to keep track of the transferred points on the system when they do not match the same UY.

Yes, lots. When adding on, it's best to stick to the same use year.

It depends. To use for the same trip and home resort and IMO, it's imperative. But if one gets a different home resort to use for trips a different time of year, then it doesn't matter much and might be better to have them separate. Unless one is trying to time for specific trips or the extra wait list spots are of true value or they want it titled differently, I'd get the same UY.
