Hi,

My daughters and I are going to be staying off site near Val D'Europe in 2 weeks. This is our first stay off site, but we have been to DLP many times.

I am trying to figure out what would be the best way to buy our RER tickets. I have only ever bought a return, but I thought I had heard that ticket books were available. I can't seem to find any information about what to buy, or how to buy them.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the information please?

Thanks.

I believe you can buy a 'carnet' of singles. This gives you 10 single tickets (ie not return!).

You just buy them at the ticket booth at either station. I believe they're around 10% cheaper than buying the tickets separately.

Thank you Happy Tappy. I thought I had read about a book of 10 tickets, but I couldn't find where I had read it.

yes, its a carnet of 10 single use tickets. It gives you a 20% discount compared to buying 10 single adult journeys individually. You can buy carnets of tickets at either the manned ticket boots, or the ticket machines, at both stations (DLP and val d'europe).

Thanks DLPdaft.

Do you know if you can pay be card? We will probably need 4 books between us for the trip, and I'd like to know if we will need to take actual Euros?

i'm honestly not sure - I used the manned ticket booths at DLP station to get mine and I used cash, but I would think you could use a card to pay at the manned booths.

Yes, you can pay by card. The machines didn't seem to like my debit card though, but my Visa worked fine.

Be careful when storing the tickets, I managed to de-activate almost all of the carnets without realising that the 3 magnetic clasps on my bag were doing it and as the Resdhome exit wasn't manned ended up buying loads more than I should have!

You can buy them in all kinds of quantities, the machine offers you about 10 different options, and does take cards. It also gives you the option to get instructions in English.

The trains are very often but can sometimes sit at the DLP station for quite some time in late evening before they go. Once they do get going the journey is just a couple of minutes - no time to get comfy!

It taking advantage if EMH try to get to the station just before 7.50, the next train is 8.01 weekends and 8.04 weekdays but even if you get this one you're in the park by 8.10! The kids also loved the double deckers.

Thanks dlpSteve. I think we're going to need about 42 tickets altogether.

Thanks sqiggly2902. That's great information. We have annual passes, so we do get EMH.

I'm struggling to understand the French ticket system

We want to go into Paris from DLP on Saturday and Sunday during our trip.

Is Chessy to say Charles de Gaulle Etoile or Chatelet les Halles covered by 1 ticket from the carnet ?

and as we want to visit the Catacombes we have to change in Paris and take another train to Denfert Rocherau, would that be another single ticket ?

I thought we would be best off with the Mobilis tickets but now I'm not sure :confused3

Paris is divided into different areas. There's different fares if you cross between the areas. There are carnets for that too, but the ones you buy for travel between Val D'Europe and Chessy will not get you to Chatelet.

I'll ask boyfriend to look it up (his French is better than mine), but a Mobilis is what I would have bought for that journey.

You can buy single or multi tickets/books at the ticket machine, by cash or card.
The one with the Union Jack flag on has instructions in various languages, just click on English and away you go.

Used this last week as the queue at the ticket booths were horrendous and take forever.

Just be wary they are sometimes out of use - I had to buy some single tickets last week from Val d'Europe and out of 4 machines, 3 were not working.

Jill, facebook me what info you require - Johnny is now working in Paris (Chatalet Les Halles) and we've been going over this as obviously I'm going to be jetsetting a lot :sigh: I do know a return is 14¬ from DLP to CLH so maybe keep that in mind, but I do know that DLP is zone 5 and "actual" Paris is zones 1 and 2 - I don't know about the carnets but I'll ask Johnny any questions you have :) x

Jill - Your best bet will be the Mobilis ticket. That will give you a return from DLP to Central Paris by RER and umlimited use of the metro throughout the day, They cost approx 15Euros and can be bought before the day you travel if you prefer so you arent caught up in queues to buy it the day you are going.

The tickets from the carnets can only be used in one zone - so if you buy a carnet in central paris it can be used for one journey between stations - if you change lines without exiting you dont need another ticket but if you exit you do.

If you dont buy the mobilis you will need a return or 2 singles from zone 5 to zone 1 which is approx 14E and then single metro tickets (or from the carnet) for each seperate journey you make

Hope this makes sense

On a similar note....We are a family of 5 (all adults) staying in an apartment in Paris. We will be taking the RER to DLP from CLH station. Do we buy 5 single tickets each way? Or can we buy the carnet of 10 using 5 to go to DLP and the other 5 to go back to CLH station? We will also be doing this going to Versailles from Orsay station. Sorry if I'm asking things again! I think I'm over thinking my trip and it's getting me confused!
