Required documents for minors

I have a passport for my 5 year old but the cruise document booklet which I received in the mail doesn't list a passport under required documents. It lists a birth certificate instead. Do I need to bring both passport and birth certificate for my son?

No. Passport trumps all other forms of ID. There are many people who do the closed loop cruises with the minimum birth certificate/photo ID stuff.

That's what I thought too until I read the DCL booklet. Wonder why they didn't include passports when that is all that's required?

Because for that cruise a passport isn't *required* for the cruise. Imagine you didn't have the passport, and you saw passport on the list. Imagine the panic!
