Requesting your own table?

Our next Disney cruise is coming up in April. My husband and I (no kids) have always cruised with friends and family and this will be our first cruise just the two of us. We are going for our anniversary and we both have pretty bad social anxiety so we would just prefer to have out own table at dinner. I know that there are a limited amount of these tables so I was wonder what is the best way to request this? Do we call ahead, or do it on the ship when we board? Is it easier to fulfill this request on the late dinner as opposed to the early dinner? Any info and advice is greatly appreciated!

It will be much easier getting your own table with late seating. If you are cruising around Easter, chances are the cruise will be booked up and you are less likely to get it. If this is important to you, then I would go with late seating. I have been on 9 Disney cruises with 2 of them being solo. My girls and I usually just talk among ourselves or when solo, I bring my Nook to read. You don't have to talk to your table mates and it is only awkward if you want to feel that way. Have a fun cruise.

We’ve done the single table too. Our first cruise was tough due my hearing impairments. We called DCL ahead of time for our next cruise and requested a single table. When we boarded I also checked with GS and the head server to assure our request was feasible.

My husband, and I to a lesser extent, do not hear well. The MDRs are noisy and its difficult and awkward to make conversation at a table of strangers. We also travel without our children and prefer late dining. We finally, requested a table for two over the phone with Disney. It was very easy, she made no guarantee, but made the special request. I did not need to make the request through my TA. Fingers crossed.

Call and make the request now. I've read that they start assigning rotations and tables a couple weeks before the cruise so you definitely want your request noted on your reservation sooner than that. Then when you get onboard, go to the location listed in the Navigator for dining changes and ask if you were given a private table. If the request wasn't granted, they can possibly change it then. On our last cruise, my request for a private table was granted. We had first seating and it was a spring break cruise, so it can happen. But you are probably more likely to get a private table with second seating just because it tends to be less full.

The only time available when I booked our first cruise was the late seating. We preferred the early seating as well as a private table. I made a request for a private table and added my name to the wait list for early seating. Nothing became available before our cruise so I went right away to the MDR. I was told they could accommodate us for early seating. I assumed this meant we were sacrificing the private table. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived at our table to find it was a private table!

Thanks! You guys are awesome! I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they can do for me. Thank you for all the info!

Just be aware that it is still only a request and if the ship is full, even with late seating it may not be possible. Happened to me on the Dream in July. Full ship, no available private table. It ended up working out - and the people were only “strangers” for the first part of the first night. Then we knew each other.

We've always asked for, and been granted, a private table. I think I have always called to request and have been told it's not guaranteed, but it has always worked out.

We are cruising in September and booked the late dinner seating with a request for a private table for just my husband and I. We had one on our Alaska honeymoon cruise 2 years ago and really loved it.

I’ll share our experience. We sailed the fantasy for our 20th anniversary a couple years back. My wife just called the general line a couple months in advance, telling them it was our anniversary and if there was any chance we could get a table to ourselves that evening. We had already been booked for early dining. Not only did they give us our own table on our anniversary, but for the whole cruise—and they gave us the absolute best tables at every service. We had amazing views out windows, etc. They really made it magic for us. So definitely call them, and don’t be shy about telling them why it’s a special cruise for you.

We have had a similar experience. Dining staff was excited about giving us a “romantic” table. Definitely tell them it’s your anniversary.

Aww that’s awesome! Disney is fantastic about going above and beyond to make things special. I called yesterday and made our request so when we get on the ship I might mention it then that it’s our anniversary 😊

With the exception of my first Disney Cruise I had requested my own table for my next seven cruises and even as a solo cruiser I received my own table. I usually wait until I board the ship to request my own table.
