Staying at BCV in July. Can we request and pay for an upgrade to a 1 bedroom unit if we have rented points from an owner? Does anyone know what the difference in price would be?

I don't see any way that you could do this. You can't pay for a night with a combination of cash and points, which is what you'd have to do in order to upgrade to a 1-bedroom. It's either all points, or all cash. Also, BCV is one of the smallest of the DVC resorts, and the odds of a 1BR still being available on the day you check in are very slim.

Instead, why not ask the owner if s/he can cancel your studio reservation and book a 1-bedroom now? There's a decent chance that there's still one available.

dfarner,
The CMs who check you in at BCV are not allowed to make any changes to your reservation--they would refer you to member services.

And since you're not a member, MS would not talk to you.

Your best bet is to contact the owner you are renting from and see if they can get you switched. As Lynn M noted, BCV is a small resort and it will be difficult, but you never know until you try.

Either way, have a great trip.

Thank you. I didn't think that would be allowed, but thought I would check.

You can ask but the only way you'll get an upgrade is if there is a problem with your reservation or unit. You can't even pay the difference. Converting from a hotel mentality to a timeshare mentality takes some adjustment. There are some things that hotel type people assume that are simply not true. View is an example. As a rule Ocean Front, Ocean Side and Ocean View mean location and not actual unit view. Mountain or garden view frequently means parking lot or similar view. Specific to DVC, Boardwalk preferred view are nothing specific or special.

You didn't give your actual dates, but the full Month of July is Magic Season.

Weekdays (Sun-Thu), 14 pts/day for a studio, or 30 pts/day for a 1-B/R.

Weekends (Fri/Sat), 32 pts/day for a studio, 60 pts/day for a 1-B/R.

Knowing the actual days of the week for your current reservation, and how many points you 'purchased', you should be able to figure out how many points additional to change to a 1-B/R. (Basically, about double the points compared to a Studio)
