They just got back from the trip from you-know-where (and I don't mean WDW).
They're currently engaged, and even though they're in Houston now, they're planning to be married in her home-town of/near Chicago. So, they've been taking trips back and forth to get stuff set up for their wedding (even though it's over a year away).
Well, over the 4th they took their wedding rings home to show their parents.
That's where the disaster started.
First, they missed their flight going out.
Then when they arrived, they somehow missed a bag on the curb when they were heading to their parents and didn't realize they'd left one of their bags on the curb until they got home. Amazingly, it had been turned in and everything was there. Covered in dog fur and stuff since the bomb/drug dogs were investigating an abandoned bag, but everything fine.
I don't know what happened for most of the rest of the trip, but I knew something had to have gone wrong when I didn't hear from them on Tuesday morning and they'd been due back Monday night. Considering I have her keys and gate-card for their apartment since I was watching their kitties while they were gone, I knew I should hear from them if not the night they got home, at least the next morning.
Finally heard from them last night -- they'd missed their flight coming home as well, and due to bad weather, weren't able to get another flight until yesterday afternoon.
Then today I found out what else had gone wrong. Sometime during their trip, my friend's purse was stolen. She'd left it in her dad's car, and the car was broken into. And, yep, you guessed it -- their brand new wedding rings were in her purse. And they hadn't had time to insure hers. His was insured, but not hers.
So this was not a good trip at all for them. I'm sure they'd appreciate some P&PD that things go smoothly as they get their replacement bank cards, IDs, credit cards, etc.
Lesson: Never leave your purse in your car in the Chicago area. Shoot, never leave your purse in your car *anywhere*.
