Requesting crabcakes at Blue Bayou?

So I have my heart set on eating at Blue Bayou on my upcoming October trip... I was planning to go for lunch since nothing on the dinner menu is appealing to me (not a big meat, fish, or mushroom eater). So I was going to go at lunch and have the Monte Christo. HOWEVER, when on the phone with Disney dining today, the castmember suggested that if I ask to talk to the chef upon arrival, they may be willing to make the ctabcakes for me. Had anyone tried this, and what was the result? I'd hate to switch to a dinner reservation then have to order something I won't enjoy.... thoughts?

I've never tried that, but we did once have an issue with our lunch reservation and by the time we were seated, it was the dinner menu. We had planned on a MC so our server said he'd go ask the chef if we could still get an MC for us (they make them for Cafe Orleans) but we were told no. We did not request to speak to the chef and so I don't know that we were turned down directly; could've just been the wait staff manager who made that call.

Curious why they won't do a MC for the dinner menu. Its not rocket science... open up bag, toss in deep fryer, plate and serve.

I suppose you can always ask and see what the chef says, but I would not count on them being able to make you a special order item. I am not entirely sure why the phone CM would say they could make crab cakes, mostly because I don't see crab cakes on either menu so there doesn't seem to be any reason for them to have the ingredients on hand. If there is nothing else on the dinner menu that appeals to you, I would stick with the lunch plan.

Thanks guys. I'll stick with lunch. You all bring up good points. I find its always a good policy to double check on anything I'm told over the phone. :)

Lol amen to that!

When they had the crab cakes on the menu they were available at lunch. But I agree with PP, why would they have an expensive, perishable ingredient for something no longer on the menu?

Have you looked at the kids menu? They'll serve a double portion for twice the price, and they have mac & cheese.

Oh no! When did the crabcakes go away? That was what I always ordered at the Blue Bayou. I thought they were a very popular item.

The only way I think they'd have the ingredients for crabcakes is if Club 33 is serving them, which doesn't sound too farfetched... but I also wouldn't count on it.

Is there any other restaurant on dlr property that has crab cakes? Boy I wish I was a member of club 33

I think all the crab cakes are in the hotels and DTD:

Jazz Kitchen, Steakhouse 55, Hearthstone Lounge, and Storytellers (a la carte)

Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen in DTD has crab cakes on their brunch menu (Crab Cakes & Eggs) and dinner menu (Louisiana Crab Cake, appetizer).

More than likely, they would have been frozen, not cooked fresh to order.

You think they have cold storage at Blue Bayou capable of keeping some crab on hand since May 2013 menu change, just in case a guest requests it?

They don't share a kitchen. It sounds pretty far fetched that another kitchen is going to send down an ingredient to create a dish from something not on the menu.

mikedoyleblogger used the past tense, so I think he was talking about when they had them on the menu...not they still have them in the freezer today.

There are crab cakes right in my hotel (GCH)! I'll happily eat the Monte Cristo at Blue Bayou, and make sure to eat a meal in storytellers! :) Thanks for the great information, everyone!
