Requesting a specific room, not view

When and with whom do you request a specific room? I don't mean specific catagories based on views or studio vs 1bdr; but if you want a specific area of a building? Do you speak to the CM at DVC when making you ressie or do you request it when you check in? Some noise levels are my concerns with my children, I have a light sleeper :cloud9: and I would prefer to be away from heavy traffic areas like elevator banks etc.

TIA!

Ask MS to put a general request on your nreservation. For example, "Far away from the elevators". When you check in, talk to the CM about your concerns.

Keep in mind that with DVC, requesting a specific room is usually a recipe for disappointment. If that room is unavailable, the room assigners will have no idea why you requested it or what you really want.

If you tell us the resort, we can give you a pretty good idea of the quieter areas to request. Of course, if you end up with noisy neighbors, nothing we can do about that. :)

Also, requests are requests. We've had very poor luck having requests met over the years (other DVCers have had much better luck, I must have a 'will be content with anything' note on my account.) It never hurts to request, but have reasonable expectations about them being met.

Asking for an area is fine and is hit or miss. Asking for a specific room is unlikely to be met and not really appropriate anyway. It's actually this type of request (on part) that caused DVC to change to the room ready system and stop putting much effort into meeting requests.

Thank you all for your replies, all this info helps. I don't want a specific room, just an area away from heavy traffic; it doesn't matter which floor etc,. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that we are not next to any major walkways or elevators!
